Hi, I have a Vango Abington 600xl herbal & I've had it for the last 3 years. The problem I have is that no matter where we go camping flies are attracted to the tent. I've had a walk round other tents and folk leave their doors open so that says to me that they don't have the same issue. Is colour a factor? It doesn't matter where we camp too. I've tried the coins in water, also tried citronella candles and spray. I'm thinking of binning the tent and starting again with a blue tent. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Thanks, yes it's herbal green which is a light green colour. Yes it has a secondary mesh screen door but when you want to go in or out then the threshold. Literally there are hundreds of flies at the porch trying to get in. Love the tent but can't put up with the stress of getting rid of the wee buggers.
I find pitching next to a caravan helps--especially if you leave an open jar of jam on the roof Also works with seagulls and pigeons if you use bread.
Of course you could try a couple of those battery powered ultra violet fly-zappers --they do help and possibly get a mains one later if it works for you.
Dont forget good old fashioned fly paper--that works but remember to keep your hair away from it
Thanks Bryanmitch, some good ideas there. Still think I'm going to try a different colour now though. Just find it strange that it doesn't matter where we go we still have the same problem. Friends that go with us have one of those decathlon white tents and they have no issues. The flies start as soon as the tent is pitched and get trapped in the canopy. I wouldn't mind if we were dirty but we're not! Thanks again.

Citronella incense pyramid burners. Keeps flies out in the first place.
After a while of smelling nice, it'll impregnate the canvas and that'll keep them off the outside too...…

Thank you, that sounds like a great idea. Hopefully I can get the tent pitched in the back garden when the weather is nicer to start building up protection. Cheers.

My present tent (see profile) is green and has a small canopy and I don't have too many problems with it attracting flies except at night when there is a light inside and they are attracted to the white front like a moth trap.
A short while ago I bought the larger 6 man version of my present tent, same colour green, but it had a large porch similar to your Vango and the flies were a pain!
I don't think the colour of the tent is going to make much difference but if you have a large open porch the flies will get inside and not being the most intelligent of creatures will try to get out again via the walls or the roof which of course are lit by the daylight and attract the flies.
My only advice is to keep the fly netting closed on your main tent doors to stop the flies getting inside (if it has fly netting) and ignore the flies in the porch which will just be buzzing around near the roof. If sitting out under the porch then a Mosquito smoke coil (or two) works well and I quite like the smell of them too.
Personally, I have not found citronella all that effective but there are mosquito coils with other oils and they seem to be the better ones from my experience.
That sounds really quite annoying. We had this problem in an apartment we stayed in on holiday - flypaper very effective - but also second those coils you can get
.
