Normally we use a largish tent for main camping, but we want to get a smaller tents, easy peasy to erect, but good, so that we can stay overnight on the way to a main campsite. I have been looking at the
Coleman Kobuk Valley 3/4 Plus Tent, but have gone of its porch area where the groundsheet is not fully sewn in and it seems to me too easy for the storage area to get wet in the event of a storm.

Can you recommend a similarly sized tent that is likely to overcome that? We are looking for a reasonably quality tent, not a cheap one.

Initially, it will be for the UK, but we may add France 2022) once all the coro is over and done with. We normally head down towards Biaritz and tour back and couple of years back we took a smaller tent for the overnight stays, which was helpful, but too small, so sold it once we were back.

It an rain VERY hard down there, especially towards the end of season.

We usually head for the lakes in the UK. It's an easy drive, but we miss so much heading straight there (and back). We will possibly also go to Cornwall, which we usually do in hotels!

How about a 2nd hand Dutch pyramid tent of appropriate size and spec., or a bell tent?

Thanks for your responses. Problem solved.

I went for a Coleman Instant 5 Dome Tent. It's a pop-up type tent, only for good weather, but its for low use and has plenty of space for the two of us. It's pretty light, though the way it folds does take up a width of 110cm.

We just did a test pitch in the garden, after watching a demo video on YouTube. The easiness of the video didn't quite match that first pitch! But we, at least, now know what to watch for, which wasn't covered in the vid.

Taking the tent down was easy, but took a little time to work out how to re-fold it. It went into the bag easily, though the width takes away my idea of a new, larger bag that will take the tent, groundsheet, carpet, pegs, hammer and peg puller, just so all the stuff is in one place.

For main camping we will use a Vango airbeam (5 size) which we bought last year, but had to cancel our camping trips twice and I think it'll be some time before we can get to main camping. It could well be the vango gets sold and we return to a more conventional tent.
