Hi,

While my first camping trip with the family is extremely likely to be postponed (have France booked for end of May) it will certainly still be going ahead. Whether it's in France or not I don't know.

I am still in need of a few bits and pieces of "essential" equipment that I don't have yet.

In particular I am after a footprint and carpet for my new family tent. Can someone suggest a good site to get these? My tent is a Vango Purbeck 600XL so I'll need something like a 260x360 carpet and a 700x380 footprint.

Have found a carpet on Amazon for 60 and a footprint for 50 but I'm sure I can do better than that.

So, are you wanting a footprint to go under the main tent only ( about 500 x 360?) Or into the front porch as well? I'd be tempted to use breathable in the front bit but it's personal choice.

I've found this - Easy Camp Palmdale 600A Footprint 495 x 360cm 2016 at £14. Outdooraction have a lot of reasonably-priced footprints and carpets for discontinued models, it's just a matter of checking until you find the size, shape and price you're after.

The Kampa Croyde 6 has a living area of around 390 x 285cm which isn't a million miles away from the Purbeck at 360 x 280. If you're prepared to tuck under the excess (or are handy with a sewing machine), the Croyde 6 carpet is £39.99. and Camperite has lots more carpets- many cheaper - worth looking at.

A footprint is just a shaped tarpaulin, sometimes with eyelets.

Try a home, like B&Q, store to buy a builders style tarpaulin. Then mark it out to your shape of tent. Then you have a choice to cut it or bend the corners up to make the correct shape then stick with gaffer tape.

If you need to shorten it you could fold a bit of tarpaulin under (so a side view would look like a Z).

Having said this about footprints we have one which we bought with our tent. I am looking for a small tent for our garden though on Gumtree so may make my own footprint. Having said that our B&Q is not taking click and collect orders, the queues are horrendous and are similar for Wickes and Home base who are not accepting orders whenever we look. Perhaps I'll be looking for a tarpaulin too.

Thanks for the advice. I will try hardware stores for a tarpaulin - hadn't thought of that. I'm sure I'll get something pretty cheap. I don't think I need it to cover the porch area but I hadn't thought about that before now.

And thanks for the links to the carpets - I'll have a dig around and report back with what I go for.

Aldi were doing 3x 4 metre tent carpets for next to nothing, as for a footprint, polypropylene sheets/tarps can be bought online, most sizes, also cheaply, depending on what quality you want
