Sorry if I'm asking this in the wrong place as I couldn't find anywhere on here that covered them, anyway we are thinking of buying a roof top tent for our Land rover which we are making into a bit of an overland vehicle and just wondered if there is anyone else on here that uses them for advice on buying one nothing to expensive and obviously we would need some sort of roof rack to fix the tent to.
The vehicle is a Land rover series 2a SWB with the same roof as a Land rover Defender 90 if this helps, thanks in advance

Saw a few last season while on the Hebrides. There was quite a variety of vehicles from Land Rover, Landcruiser and even some smaller van conversions like the VW Caddy.
I didn't recognise the makes but it appears that they are out there with different styles and sizes.
A quick Google search came up with Ventura tents, address shows Epping for contact details.
Also wandering about one of these, after much deliberating I went for a mondeo estate as opposed to a van. We're well set up for longer stay camping in sites, but wandering the best option for short/ weekend trips or exploring further a field from a base in a campsite. Bed in the back of the estate with wind blinds of some sort, a roof tent or a 2 man tent, anyone else use any of these options, I can see pros and cons of all.
Whilst there are one or two "reviews" of roof tents on this site I believe, it may also pay to post on Bushcraft UK and Life in the Wilderness....two very helpful fora..........

I have seen a few of these roof tents about, they are popular with the Surfing fraternity, they tend to live in the tent by night, whilst stori g their board and other gear in the main part of the van.
The downside tousing a car to sleep in is the amount of condensation that settles and saturates everything overnight, especially during cold weather. We tried this once when my Husband had a Transit Crewbus with the rear parael bench seats, but soon gave up after one weekend and bought a small Ridge tent instead (1989)

Have you looked at the CARANEX style of tent to fit your landy? A lot less wobbly I would of thought!
I have but it's something son and I want to use at different time but with the same vehicle and are both sold on the roof top tent
We hankered after one some years ago after seeing a Maggiolina on a site in France and subsequently checking them out at a retailer near Narbonne.
Ultimately, the outlay was a bit too much for us back then but, coincidentally, we've been looking at them again just recently and the Maggiolina with manual winder would still be my preference. Obviously you need an appropriate vehicle to accommodate one.
If you check out the 'Overland and Outdoors' YouTube videos, 'Pyranees Road Trip 2017', you'll see an excellent review of a Maggiolina. Unfortunately, I can't remember in which episode it was shown!
