Hi, I’m thinking of buying a second hand Royal Atlanta 6. It’s not a brand I’m familiar with, although the reviews on here are good. It’ has also been unused for 8 years. I have seen that the hh is only 2500mm. It has a Hampton 4 extension and the cost is about half of the cost for both when new. Is it a good buy?

We have a Royal Brisbane 8, which I think is the later version of the Atlanta. We have used it for the past 4 years with no major issues, other than a couple of poles that cracked in strong winds (easily replaceable). We love the tent as it is really spacious. No problems with leaks etc, and it has rained a fair bit during some of our trips. I think Royal may have gone bust, which is a shame as we were hoping to upgrade in the next year or two and can't find another 8-man tent we like with a vis-a-vis layout.
unused for 8 yrs? and then at least a coule of yrs older than that and they are still wanting roughly half of what you could get a new tent for? nah, wouldnt even entertain it, its well passed its sell by date

Agreed. A cotton canvas tent - or Cabanon all-season polyester- will have a long life if properly cared for but a ten year old synthetic is worth peanuts. If you pay half the current-day equivalent price, you'll probably be paying more than it cost new. I'd avoid it unless it's dirt cheap.
