I’ve just laid my hands on an old ‘80’s Lichfield Scorpion tent.
With its distinctive green and blue panels and drop centre profile I recall seeing them occasionally on campsites. The seller said it was an expedition tent that had travelled far and am wondering if any other campers have used one.

Not that particular Lichfield. But in the late ‘70s, we used a green ridge tent (with a roomy ridge extension that we got later). Man made shell (I’d hesitate to call it nylon?), cotton inner. Stood up to all the Scottish weathers including gales, frost & snow. When that husband & I split up, he got the tent & gave it to his young nephews to play in. I bought a Cabanon to replace it, then met someone who had an orange Vango Force 10. Still got both tents, 35 years later, though goodness knows why! I expect the Lichfield went to landfill long ago. Don’t remember seeing that blue & green one, but there are so many tent models.

I think this one’s man-made textiles. It’s taken 2 waterproof coatings and needs more! I’ll see how it goes cos it’s destined for the highlands. May check out your other tents as alternatives. Thanks for the info Fiona

If you’re off to the Highlands, hillwalking maybe, or just winter camping, you might need specialist kit. The Vango Force 10 was absolutely the best in its day (bright orange tent, instantly recognisable) totally secure half way up a mountain but it’s cotton - bulky & heavy - with poles. Poles! So is my much loved Cabanon - a car tent, not a carry tent.
Many good ones available now, made of clever new fabrics that perform well & are very light; the various ways of making the tent ‘shape’ are a critical choice. I can’t advise on modern small tents - a knee injury stopped my hill walking some time ago.
PS the Highlands cover about half of Scotland, the Covid travel restriction Levels vary across the area too. But enjoy your visit, whenever it is.

I’m based in Scotland, been rattling off the local Munro’s which has been great fun, looking further afoot now. Weather getting unpredictable and travel times increasing so camping looks like a good option. This tent is low, the inner also hangs lower and is baggy, not sure yet how to put it up properly, hoped someone here may be able to advise, this also has a pole end haha!

Can’t see your location on the mobile version of UKCS, sorry. Raw wind here in Ayrshire today & Arran has had snow, so I’m staying low level! I’d suggest you try your tent on a short trip - but have an escape plan as backup. I assume you’ve put the tent up in the back garden.... But I think it’s very unlikely that someone will remember how to put up that particular tent.

I’m not sure I’ll be using it in Scotland, I think it would need a few modifications for our climate. Just ordered a Vango Banshee 200 Pro, I think this may be more suitable.
