Lost a couple of awning poles due to the torrential rain at the beginning of last week. Currently using 4 section steel poles (2x2m + 2x2.2m). Before I replace them, I wondered whether 12.7mm fibreglass poles would be better or would they just flex?

I use Isabella composite poles on a 2.5 and 3m deep awnings. As we have a tourer, weight of poles is an important consideration for us. We have endured some pretty very windy and wet conditions over the years and the poles have never let us down. That said we pay attention to setting the awnings up correctly and using storm guys etc. If the fibreglass poles are the generic ones used for tents, I would research them just to make sure they can carry an awning roof, especially when sodden with rain or heavy snow.
These are for an awning at the front of a tent, so are free standing, but guyed out. I was just wondering of the fibre pokes would be too flexible? I was looking at 12.7mm ones.

If you do mean king poles (extending poles with foot at one end, steel spike at the other which goes through eyelet in the tent fabric), then I'd go for fibre poles every time (strong, but lightweight). It's what Karsten use for their tents.
Campion make the fibre poles for many of the big awning manufacturers, so worth checking them out.

yes ,but , the o.p. is stating 12.7 mm diameter, thats just 1/2 an inch.
thats too small for using as upright supports
