So we’ve booked a last minute trip and reading through the info it says “no gazebos or event shelters”
We have a Coleman event shelter that we always use for our cooking etc. It’s only me (and 2 kiddos) so I can put the shelter up by myself and we have a vango 550xl that I can get up on my own too. I don’t really want to go away with no outdoor shelter - from what I’ve seen from googling there’s no awning that fits the 550xl so I’m thinking could I set up my own big tarp type shelter? Never done this before so I guess I’ll watch some videos but any advice on what I need to buy- we love the shelter we have so it will prob only be used this once so don’t really want to spend a fortune.
Any other suggestions?

I bought a Unigear tarp from Amazon 3m x 4m for about £35. Quality was much better than I expected. Plenty big enough to cook under. You'll need poles but it comes with guys and pegs.
Hi, put 'tarp' in the search box (above the FB icon) and you'll get loads of topics on it and plenty of photos for inspiration. Try the origami one first as plenty in there to read.

Learn to rig a tarp over the entrance of the tent using the ridge line method using 2 poles and for the tarp to be attached to the ridge line using Prusik knots (Google to see how it is done) and karabinas, so that it can be taken down with ease in the event of bad weather.
Here is a pic of my own effort back in 2014:
