Hi there,

I bought a Robens tent off ebay and used it for the first time a week ago, it all seems fine - looks like it's barely been used. In the morning though, I noticed that the bottom of the inner had a mottled look about it in places and the blanket we'd put down seemed damp but there wasn't any water and nothing visible if you rubbed your finger over the mottled part. It was a dry weekend but the grass was quite dewy in the morning. Just wondering if this is normal or whether it needs resealing, or perhaps it's just condensation?

Any advice most welcome :D

Many thanks

Do you use a footprint under the groundsheet? What is the groundsheet/tent/material?

Hi there,

No don't use a footprint but thinking of getting a 3rd party one. It says online :

Materials:
Flysheet: HydroTex 5,000mm (75D polyester taffeta, 150D Oxford, 100% polyester)
Inner: 100% polyester, 68D
Poles: 16,14,13mm Alloy DAC 7001/6061, anodised

Many thanks!

Hi, I can only guess, but being a "plastic" tent and on dewy ground, with a blanket on top, that this is condensation or sweating. and as such would be nothing to worry about?

A piece of cheap polypropylene tarp would work well?

Doesn't have to fit exactly, but shouldn't stick out from the tent groundsheet anywhere......

Ground sheets often leak.... nothing is waterproof so if you put something on the ground sheet that can wick it will end up damp

I have had a fair number of tents over the years and a few of those allowed ingress of water through the SIG noticeable by wet patches on the bottom of my sleeping mat when compressed against the ground.
Personally I have also found that using a footprint exasperates the problem by sandwiching the water between the two ( after rain of course )
Yours sounds like it is most probably condensation , maybe try opening a vent or mesh panel at night ?

Just as a note - If you push up on the inside of a wet tent it will almost certainly leak
