Hi.
I am looking to replace a few of the short/low tethering guy rope lines on my Randstad pyramid tent. One has disintegrated and unravelled, and a few others heading that way or not providing enough friction to hold tension.
The metal pieces are fine, so just need some rope. Does anyone know, is it 4mm braided 16 strand cotton rope cord that I need? Hard to gauge from worn old stuff what the spec for new would be.
Looks pretty cheap, might end up doing a full refresh.

Thanks.

I would recommend the 4mm reflective guys from Clamcleats:

https://www.clamcleat.com/reflective-fluorescent-guyline.html

I would also recommend their cleats to replace the metal sliders as they are so much easier to use!

I have replaced all the cotton guy ropes of my Randstad tent with more modern plastic guy ropes. last longer and dry faster. make sure you buy the right one. bought mine at a sporting goods store. but these were not played by the manufacturer, which caused enormous leakage of the cloth when folding the tent when wet.

Instead of attaching the guys directly to the tent, add a stainless steel karabiner in between, so that the karabiners and the guys could be taken off and store separately from the tent if they are still moist/wet.

This was suggested in the big Karsten thread, and I did that with my own Dutch cotton canvas pyramid tent.

Wow, loads of customisation ideas I hadn't even considered, thanks!
The plastic guy ropes idea might be worth it, I'm always a little unsure if the ropes are dry to the core or not.
Do the new Dutch tents come with that now anyway then?

Each to their own - he believed and still does it is necessary.

He also sorts his pegs and guys out in different bags etc...

I admire him for being so organised.

I attach my guys to my Alaska with carabiners. If your guys are wet they tend to dry slower than the tent and can be a source of mildew.

My two Dutch pyramid tents bought as new in 2011 (Hypercamp Escala 4 made in Eastern Europe) and 2016 (ESVO Bedouin 340 made in the Netherlands) came with white synthetic guys.

I know a few of us adopted that practice of attaching guys to tents using karabiners.
