Hi all... I have acquired a norfolk lake tent with the sturdy aluminium poles.
One set of poles has the elastic cord missing.
How do you fasten the new cord inside the pole as it looks like the fastening is a little bit far inside the pole to reach.
Thanks in anticipation.

the ones i have had to relace the elastic where just a big knot, not so big tho that they got in the way of the "fittings" so just remove the only elastic and relace it thr the tubes, and then stretch the elastic tie a knot and it will locate itself up the tube out of sight

Welcome.

They are usually sprung steel clips that are pushed into the tube (far enough for any mating tubes/fitments to fully couple without restriction).

I've retrieved them with a sturdy wire 'hook' (repurposed wire coat hanger), with a bit or 'easing' on the barbs one at a time to 'walk' them up the tube until clear.

The elastic cord is not essential, it only keeps sets of poles together for convenience. Sometimes more trouble than it's worth trying to replace the elastic!

Sounds like this may come in handy... as it did for me a good few years ago...

With massive thanks and a big wave to our old mate Gary Cross...

Just check the size of the poles, and buy the appropriate springs from "Any reputable camping retailer".

Thanks for all the replies. This has put my mind at rest. I know you can do without them but I'd sooner have them.
Thanks again

I've recently re-threaded a NL poleset - a blue tagged 7 section one. The elastic is generally a bit longer than six sections, and I'm sure it was threaded by machine when being manufactured all them years ago.

What I did was . . . .

cleared out the clips that the elastic was connected to on the two end sections (using a long bamboo pole that could fit easily),

Cut a length of elastic approx 6 sections long,

Found a bead in the man-toolbox that would fit in the wide end of an end section but was too big to fall out of the thinner, crimped, end - then knotted the elastic, passed it through the bead and then dropped the bead into one end section, and let the elastic pass through and out the other end. That deals with one end of the seven section set.

Pass the elastic through the next five sections. Should have enough to show out of the end of section 6. Then stretch the elastic so it's long enough to go through the final section, clamp the elastic where it leaves the end of section 6, and then thread the stretched elastic through a similar bead or one of the original wire clips you recovered. When you release the tension on the elastic it should pull the bead/clip/whatever back into the inside of section 7. If using one of the original clips you may need to take a pair of pliers to it to compress it to being thinner than the wide end of section 7.

Yeah . . . a faff, but it does work. Took me around 30 minutes. And just to rub salt in to the wound another elastic went on my recent tenting jolly - so I've got to do it all over again ! ! !

Good luck.
