Welcome to UKCS.
If you are still capable of putting up a tent, then perhaps consider having a different sleeping system.
I did not wish to sleep on airbed (due to risks of puncture), and SIM (self-inflating mattress) directly on the floor due to reduce in mobility.
I switched to a camp bed with a SIM on top, secured using a flannel fitted sheet with additional sheet clamps.
How about a trailer tent with a bed that is off the floor?
As for a roof tent, personally, it is not practical for me as I do not wish to climb up and down a ladder in the middle of the night in order to go to the loo.
I also have a dog and cannot imagine him wanting to climb up and down a ladder. Of course he can sleep in the car, however, at home, he sleeps next to me on the bed.
With a roof tent, I would need to find a way to cook, eat and to sit down. Therefore, I would need some kind of awning or event shelter of some sort so that I could have a living and cooking area.
As for car tents, I have only seen the ones for a small van like a Citroën Berlingo.
Probably more practical than a roof tent without the need to climb up and down a ladder, however, the same issues exist in that I would need some additional space for cooking, eating and relaxing.
Hence I opted for a motorhome with her own facilities as in a kitchen, toilet and shower. Not a VW T5 as I don't want to have to make up and put away my bed every time I use it.
Hope the above helps in some ways.

I did not opt for a trailer tent or folding camper as I do not wish to tow.
In addition, for a trailer tent, it means I would need to peg it out and I was done with tent set up and wanted an unit that was quick and easy to pitch, hence a MH.
I had been eyeing a Camplet for years, however, the need to tow, having a kitchen inside the tent and the need to peg out, put me off getting one.
