Hi,

I am looking to buy a family dome tent on a limited budget and am torn between a brand new Coleman Wyoming or a second hand Gelert Satellite both available for roughly £150.00 including Postage (the gelerts seem to fetch about £120 plus P&P on eBay)

I'm currently tempted to go for the Wyoming as although I prefer the look of the Satellite (nice neat shape) The Wyoming has a larger living area, plus being brand new I have more comeback in case of problems.

any thoughts?

P.S. I notice that the Campus Super Trio is very similar to the Gelert satellite and also seems available for the same kind of price SH on eBay so comments on this would be helpful too.

Thanks.

Hi studiometic

Welcome aboard UKCS

Although our previous tent was the Gelert Satellite 6 I'd say go for the Wyoming.Just had a look at it here, and to me it looks the better of the 2. Lots of door options and plenty of windows ( things often overlooked when buying a tent)
Only downside I can really see is the lack of height in bedroom pods.

Which ever you choose, happy camping !!

I am also looking at the Coleman Wyoming. I like the roof light- but will it leak? I have only seen pictures online. Do you know if the groundsheet is fitted and whether it pitches fly sheet first?

The cheapest I've seen is £150 at Outback Trading.

I spoke to a bloke at SK camping and he told me that the 'blue range' of Wyoming, Michigan & Colombia are all SIG, and pitch inner first. If you are looking at the Wyoming, I would suggest the Michigan at the Millets price of £164.99. It appears to be the next one up from the Wyoming in terms of features and fits in with your budget(ish). I bought a Michigan a few days ago instead of saving up for a Sun Valley 8 as it is twice the cost (some would say it's twice the tent aswell, but I'll try this camping lark first before shelling out nearly £350). I think I saw all three of the 'blue range' at the Horsham tent show and they looked v good, easily as good as the more expensive tents (and it was peeing down for 2 hours non stop so I got to check out the waterproofing aswell).

Regards

I'm pretty sure the Wyoming at least is fly first with a loose lay groundsheet in the living area and the usual sewn in groundsheet to the inners. See here http://www.outdoorfocus.co.uk/tall_fibreglass_steel_tents/Coleman/Coleman_Wyoming_info.htm  MT

MerryTerrier

Fair enough, just looked at the close up pictures of the Wyoming, and it def looks like it is not completely SIG (don't know about the piching for sure). I'm sure I remembered the conversation with the SK bloke correctly (maybe he was not the 'tent man' or alternativley I have been on the beers too many times since - the clever money is on the latter). Anyway, the point about having a shufty at the Michigan aswell as the Wyoming still stands. Apologies for the crap info.

regards

I have a Wyoming - am I the only one?  It was a one time offer of £110 so bought it on the spur of the moment.

Haven't actually used it yet but did practice in the garden.  Fly takes about 10-15 minutes.  One person to lift the dome and the other to bend the poles, other than that one person could put it up if no wind.  There is an additional transparent fly over the roof vent and in case of horizontal rain that might go under this, there are zip up covers for the vent.

Bedrooms are SIG but living area is not.

I'll post some pic's as soon as I have them.

Yes indeed

 Apologies for the crap info.

No need to apologise, you were only repeating in good faith what you had been told by someone who ought to have known what they were on about! MT
