We're thinking of buying a new tent and have searched this site for ideas and various showrooms. We're about down to the kyham or sunncamp. Can anyone please tell me if the sunncamp is as easy to erect as the kyham? Which one is better?!

Thank you

We have a Khyam XL Classic - absolute doddle to put up and take down for that matter. So I'd definitely say go for the Khyam if you can afford it!!

we bought a Kyham ridgi dome about 5 years ago and have never looked back.  It has with stood numerous storms, gales and down pours with out a problem.  It goes up easily and is very spacious.

The only minus points are cost ( When we looked they were a lot more expensive then Sun Camps), not many windows and the weight ( I can barely lift it in and out of the car).  So if you only camp in good weather and go for longer stays so don't mind the time to put it up Sun camp might be for you.  If you are an all weather camper and do short stays so want an easy to put up camp I'd go Ridgidome

I also got a Khyam Rigidome, because of the Quick Erect.

They are heavy, but we keep the poles and inners separate from the main body.

This way, the bags are not big and heavy and I get a lot more packing options in the car.

Get a Khyam.

Hi,

I'd say Khyam too, but I wouldn't buy any other tent now. You didn't mention what one it was in the Sunncamp range but I looked at a few models on their website and the larger domes seem to be inner first pitching, this could be a right pain if it's raining, whereas the Khyams all have the integral poles in the main section allowing you to get the ground covered quickly, then you put the inners inside after.

I was talking to a Vango Diablo 600 owner this weekend and he mentioned that was a drawback for him having to put the inner up first, might be worth a thought. ( I was doing my usual saddo Khyam salesman pitch and showing him the rigi pod, lol I should get some discount from etech   )

Simon

I think going by the fact that all replies are saying Khyam you probably already know the general feeling on here, and for what its worth I totally agree.

Bought my XXLse last year and have never regretted it for a moment. Also totally agree with all the comments from fab1 if you want strength and ease of pitch the Khyam is definitely the one, can't imagine our Cornwall trip last year would have even started in anything else.

What is also interesting, and says bucketloads, is the way we are all so proud to be Khyam owners, you wouldn't get that unless they were something a little bit special.

Good luck with the choice,

Jon

I would go for the Sunncamp. I have had an APS  3004 for 3 years and it is easy to pitch, strong and wind and waterproof PLUS cheaper than Khyam.

Another plus is the poles are metal (aluminium) and not prone to breaking as has been known with Khyams.
