Note: This topic has been pinned as it's a subject that comes up often. If you have a question about sewn in groundsheets (SIG) please read through this thread first, then post on the end of it if necessary
---------------------------------------------------------
we bought our first tent + decided not to have a fully sewn in groundsheet.
Were we right?
I don't know - it takes longer to peg out - leaks if you don't fit it exaclty - but supposidly offers better ventilation. Did we make the right decison - what are your thoughts on them?
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
we prefer the sewn in groundsheet just because the first tent we got didn't have one and it was dead draughty, but now we don't have that problem so its nice and cosy. In our new tent there is seems to be plenty of ventilation.
Everyone on here have different reasons why they pick a tent, I'd say from some of posts I've read some prefer it with a SIG and some prefer it without

May 13 - Cala Gogo, St Cyprien (didn't go, hubby too ill to travel)
May 14 Ranc Davaine
August 14 Les Sablons
August 13 - Camping Playa Brava, Pals
SIG for definate, cozy and draughtfree, easy to erect and even easier to pack away. (musn't be an inner erect 1st for this though). Excellent ventilation is elsewhere on the tent, opened as and when needed.
........ unless you're lucky enough to own a Coleman Weathermaster, then you get the best of both worlds, a SIG and an outer-erecting 1st (or all as one) tent...
molly, you've bought your lovely new tent so why not just enjoy it!
No point in asking now whether you've done the 'right' thing or not - that way madness lies. Your tent feels good to you and thats all you need to know MT

our bedrooms have SIG, the living area doesnt, but we have a huge groundsheet, we place down first, then erect the tent, then place a smaller groundsheet in the living area,
Had a tent with a SIG and our current one without - think I prefer without, as it's much easier to deal with a seperate grounsdsheet for drying off/cleaning when we get home!!
