Hi everyone,  I have been informed that a Vario 5 would be too difficult for me to put up on my own.  I have two children one 2 and one nearly 4.  I'm a single Mom coming back to camping, as my husband would never deign to camp!  I used to camp over 15 years ago but am out of touch.  I need a tent with a larger living area so I can stand up (5'6") and to put table and chairs for 3 + other essential equipment.  Can anyone suggest a tent that can be put up quickly (as the kids screaming will probably clear the campsite) and one which has spacious living area.  Should I consider second-hand and what are the pitfalls?  Anyones help on this would be really appreciated - I've already taken the kids to the tents in warehouses and they've already got the bug.  Thank you all,  manatee-lady

We were virgin campers at the beginning of the summer. We have three children and we wanted a tent easy to construct and good quality . We opted for an Outwell Colorado 5, which is a tunnel tent and has two separate bedrooms and we're really pleased  with it. You could assemble in less than an hour. We now think this is too small for us and intend to upgrade to an Outwell Hartford XL.

Welcome manatee-lady, we have a vango venture 500 - OH has put it up on his own, I reckon I could do it on my own and I'm 5ft 3 and not very strong.

Head height is fine (pictures look a bit misleading) - OH is 6ft 2 and manages just fine.

It has one bit sleeping area and a reasonably sized living area.

There is easy to errect and can be done single handed, the two are not quite the same. My tent, a typical small'ish dome, is easy, but for a few minutes really works best with two. One where you need to hold one end of the poles in the pin and lift, and the other point when you are pulling the flysheet over. You could struggle with one of you, but it would work best with two - my 9 year helps me, so it works. I suspect this will be the case with most of the small'ish domes - but certainlky don''t let me put you right off something like an Outwell Hartford M, which would give you the space arrangement you want.

However, remember you will just about always have someone onthe site who is willing to help for a few minutes (just take the wedding ring off ;->).

I suspect that something like a Montana with an external frame that can be erected on the ground and then pulled up as one, might be easier for you. if so, look at something like a Montana 4.

And remember, the bigger the tent the more it weighs and needs to be lugged to and from the car, so don't get carried away with size - there are those on a site that might be able to help errect... but carrying.... phew' that is diferent ! ;->
