Id love a IH Camper van, With fixed bed, its not to big and then I could tour round europe with it, but would still keep my trigano chantilly tt for holidays that you go to one place and stay for 2 weeks, I would miss not being under canvas at all.

I have to say my tent would be out of the window - but here is a suggestion for those who would stick with it: bring the butler & housekeeper to put the tent up for you!
I'd design my own then get the best tent maker in the world to make it (don't know who though). Does anyone else design tents in their head as a daydream?
From the look of a lot of the replies here it seems most people are only camping because they can't afford an alternative - what with campervans and caravans being top of the lists!!!! Oh, and not forgetting the Cuban volleyball team - LOL

Er yes! Actually family ill health drove us to it this year because we couldn't book anything but I did rather enjoy it despite my OH's thoughts that I wouldn't.
I really thought it was good fun, needed a bigger car and we didnt' have a porta loo but now we have and are working on the car situation so hopefully next year we will camp again in the summer abroad.
But if I won the lottery I am afraid it would be hotels for me, around the world booking in as we go. Not fancy hotels, just normal hotels, but I do like a proper bed at night!
I definately wouldn't be swapping tent for a van of any description!!! I think I would get a new car to cart everything around in and a new vango aspen 700. Probably wouldn't be the only holiday I would have but I wouldn't ditch camping, I like the relaxation and the freedom.
Maybe I could buy a camp site for myself and like minded individuals and not allow scroats on it!
I have to admit a gorgeous motorhome would be my ideal, i couldn't be doing with all that towing stuff. Constant life on the road as long as i had a nice house somewhere lovely (probably quiet location not too far from a buzzy Spanish city and my council house in Cambridge) as a bolt hole. But there again i'd have to live with the idea of selling out so would have to have a huge Montana or a big old Sunncamp, for tenting in the summer months. And then a massive people carrier (Crysler grand voyager maybe)with roof box, not trailer, to get all the luxuries in.
Judging by the responses so far it looks like most of us would seek a little extra comfort/luxury but we're all committed to the idea of unique getting away from it all experiences.
BTW quinnys, would i be allowed on your private camp site, i'm a good cook, superb waitress and play a mean hand of poker? I also have a cadiz 5, but that's all at the mo, was looking at an indy 8 at weekend and it looked beautiful.
Took a lot of time to choose our tent (Montana 6) as wanted to think ahead & get something with the space to grow into (or fill up with gadgets) but was torn between that & the Aspen 700 (en-suite loo space v. posh) - only swayed towards Montana as it was outer 1st - so would buy the 700 for weeks when no rain predicted (unused then).
Also recently saw a Coleman Sahara 4 - v. cute & ideal if I decided to camp with kids without hubby.
But would definately like to customise my own - more hanging hooks etc from sturdy points (the single hook in the montana room is useless), front doors that open in a D shape so can be flung back to open (rather than always having to roll the damn thing up) and bedrooms that can actually fit the Outwell extra large camp bed - rather than my 6ft 3" husband having to sleep on his in the living area !
------------- Ignore the weather forecast and just go !

July 09 : Green Hills, Bakewell
Aug O9 : Hall More, Carnforth
Aug 22 - Sept 1st : Trevornick, Holywell Bay WINDY
Sept 5th/7th : Settle
Mrs Jubbly of course you would be allowed on my campsite with those credentials! Only like minded individuals who want to have fun, like to have a drink, respect other people and like children being children.
As for the Indy, it is great, I like the space and with 2 boys under 6 it's great to have them on the other side of the tent from us! At the moment they sleep in the same pod, but eventually they could have one of their own. We can put up table and chairs in the living space and leave them. We have recently bought a gelert cadiz to cater for the quick weekend away, not because we found the Indy a problem until we took it down wet and tried to dry it out!!! I felt it was a lot of work for just a weekend.
