Hi

Just seen this on the Norwich camping website. Does any one who owns earlier models think that the new specs are worth the extra cash - or should I get the 2005 model which is cheaper? Must admit that I like the new colour tho

At the moment Im in a dilemma over this tent and the Campus Breckenridge Deluxe.

Any comments?

Cheers Kim

Hi there we have an Outwell XXL, which we love. I had a look at the website the updates for the 2006 version being; large skylights, higher bedroom openings, O-shaped inner doors and cable entry point for your home comforts.

Personally I don't see any problems with the D shaped doors in the 2005 model we have 3 children with two under 4 and I'm not sure how they would cope with the O shaped doors as they tend to just open the bottom straight sections and struggle on the curves. I know other people have commented on here about the height of the interiors of the bedrooms ie you could not stand up but not the height of their openings; we have not found it a problem. There are skylights in the 2005 model so I can only assume they have increased in size. Another thing that is not shown on the diagrams is that there is another window on the door at the back, well there is in the 2005 model.

If you look at the actual bedroom measurements they have actually been reduced in size from 180x215cm to 160x210cm in fact the whole tent has shrunk from 690x770cm to 680x740cm not much of a difference I know but you will notice the new model is advertised as a 12 man as opposed to 16.

Also the Hydrostatic head on the 2006 is 3000mm; Outtex 3000 as opposed to 5000; Outtex 5000 on the 2005.

However if you have EHU then probably you wouldn't mind paying the extra £30 for the cable entry point.

Must say the new model is a cracking colour too and you also get a door mat that you don't get with the 2005 model.

Hi

This may be a daft question but....do you need a hole for the ehu cable?

Cant you just leave the door open enough for it to go through?

Never had an sig so haven't got a clue Must admit though I hadnt noticed the size difference. In the case of my clan, every inch matters

Any one know of websites with internal pics of the xxl (2005)?

Cheers kim

I am not all that impressed by the 2006 specification on the XXL.

I use the air vent/zipper thingy on the bedroom pod for EHU entry. zip it back up and there is no draught issue.

I dont have a big problem with the HH reduction to 3000mm as this is absolute watertight anyway, but at least they have become realistic with the sleeping capacity of the new tent!

I think the website can be found at outwell.com and when you get there click on tents then on the XXL model you should be able to click on an internal view of the tent

Hi Oscar

Thanks for that!

The more I look at it, the more that I think the 2005 one is the better option.

Cheers Kim
