Made I think! I used mum's clothes-horse & a large tablecloth from around 3 years old, but my Auntie bought me a wigwam from Woolworths when I was around 7 years - spent many happy hours playing in that, but was never allowed to spend the night in it

First did proper camping aged 18 when it was the best way to spend everynight with boyfriend - we never had to book in as 'Mr.&Mrs.Smith' cos camp site owners just never asked if we were married  Camped for quite a few years (even after we were married), then I was stupid enough to sell my beautiful frame tent after divorce cos I couldn't transport it as I didn't drive. Got back into camping in 2004 with my camping virgin hubby No.2

Hi

I got given a tent about this time last year and have not managed to get away camping as yet. My OH says she is just not into camping in anyway shape or form, have you any tips that might help me to get her to try camping just once, she may even like it, she used to love the outdoors and the wildlife and would walk for miles and miles with the dogs. It will be 10yrs next month since she became disabled, and since then hardly ever goes out the house, I had to give up work so as to care for her, she can get about but has balance and co-ordination problems and I think it may be she is self conscious about her condition. Like I said earlier any advise or tips to get her to try camping would be gratefully received.

Thanks

 Steve.

I suppose the best for a first trip in a really nice warm or hot weekend, my OH had said that if on our first camping trip it had rained alot and been freezing like some subsequent trips the tent would have go and there would be no camping.  But as it was the sun was out and it was beautiful and relaxing.  How about a site close by ish that has good views and facilities (so you can go home again).  Then if your wife doesn't feel upto moving away from the tent she can benefit from the fresh air and views from the comfort of a good camping chair. How about a meet?  They are well organised and you and your wife would be amoung new friends, you don't have to constantly stay with a group, there will also be people to help with erecting tents, supplying hot water etc.  It may boost your wifes confidence in going out more.  And of course camping is very relaxing!

I think I'm a born camper, my camping 'evolution' is as follows(!?!?!):

0 to 5 yrs - Cardboard boxes(!), Mums clothes horse & a big blanket, also a great wendy house with working letterbox!

5 to 18 - My family's caravans over the years, at 8 I got my own tent for my play things at the side of my Grandma's caravan (didn't use it in my teenage years though!)

18 to 27 - Stopped camping apart from the occasional caravan visit - I must have been mad.

27 to 31 (present day) - started tent camping accidentally through going to a festival but after that myself & my OH were hooked (it must be in my blood, all my family are caravanners / campers)! Just about to trade up to larger tent for more home comforts...

One more thing to add - this site has me hooked, once on I cannot get myself to bed, it is amazing how many people are still on it late at night, I am definitely not alone

Made; thanks to OH.

Did a lot of youth hosteling when I was younger but hadn't camped; well not unless you count a night in a hammock slung between 2 trees whilst on a Duke of Edinburgh residential course.

I think I was made. My parents used to go camping, they used to go in tents then they bought a caravan.

And my Nana and Granddad used to go camping, infact they still do in there tent occasionally, but the bad news is they bought a caravan to

So with me I was bought up camping but one things for sure, I'll NEVER be buying a caravan
