Hi

Bear with me if I do this wrong as this is my first time on the site.  Wonder if anyone can give us some advice?

We swapped a small frame tent for a Khyam a couple of years ago but found the Khyam too dark and garage like so we are now looking for an alternative.  Frame tents seem to be too big or too small so we are looking at the Marachel Vario 5 Tunnel Tent.  Can anyone give me an opinion on these tents?, also the benefits of cotton over polyester?

Thanks.

Sorry, can't really help with the tent you mention, looks nice though, you'd certainly have no problem with it being too dark anyway, loads of windows!

Welcome to the website, now you're here you won't want to leave!

We moved from Cotton Frame tent to tunnel tent last year as we wanted to camp (with luxuries) without a trailer.

After reading the review of the Marechal Vario 5 on this site we bought one on spec ( as it were) and we love it. It is bright and airy, well designed and made, offering versatile living space with the moveable front panel.

All in all we have more usable area to relax and live in and find it much easier to transport.

Be aware if you are buying that you will have to check carefully that the model you intend to purchase is not a renamed smaller version.

Any other help needed, just ask.

First of all, a big welcome to Mumclog & Paul

You asked about benefits of cotton over polyester Mumclog. You get more condensation in a polyester tent than a cotton one. However, cotton can take longer to dry out at home if you have to decamp on a wet day. My choice would be cotton every time, but each to their own choice.

Paul: The 2 second tents for sale on ebay have had good reviews on here, but they are more expensive to buy on ebay when you add on the delivery charges. I believe you can order them direct from the Quencha Decathalon site for around £35 including delivery. There have been threads about them on this forum, so try the search button at the top of this page, make sure you search in 'tents' and 'message body', and you should find the views of Quencha owners on previous threads.

Hi Paul , can certainly recomend the Quechua 2 second pop up tents from Decathlon, dont know what the ones on e-bay are, dont trust ebay any way. Spent 2 weeks last year in one ,perfectly waterproof and cosy.  Cost £35 but at that time they wouldnt post it so I had to go to stockport and buy one.  PamJ

Hi

Thanks for the replies.  I have actually been a bit impulsive yesterday afternoon, so I hope I have done the right thing.  We had bought a catalogue return frame tent couple of weeks ago then decided it was too big.  The shop where we bought it, (very good shop by the way, am I allowed to recommend them?) have agreed that we can take it back to swap so I went in yesterday and ended up buying a Sunncamp Vario 4 tent, plus a toilet tent, plus a Sunncamp gazebo type thing, all for about £10 more than the huge frame tent.  They are polyester, I will see how I feel about the condensation problem.  But I think the versality of the three might be good.  We go to several weekend festivals during the summer when we might only need the basic tent.  Then when we are away for longer we can use the toilet tent and gazebo.  Will report back later!

Good site by the way!
