Hi all! My partner and I are currently looking to upgrade from our three person (barely able to sit up) tent to one we can stand up in. We visited a 'camping showroom' about a week ago and as well as inspecting the display tents we came away with a pile of tent catalogues with a view to shortlisting several, big mistake! Now more confused than ever!!! My brain hurts bigtime! Anyway, I've shortlisted the following:

  • Outdoor Revolution VRX Scenic 4.2
  • Sunncamp Family Vario 400
  • Sunncamp Oasis 600
  • Sunncamp Vista 800
  • Sunncamp Pathfinder
  • Aztec Hawk 5
  • Aztec Sala 4
  • Aztec Veinto 6
  • Wynnster Pegasus 6
  • Gelert Lokon Vario 4

Although there are only 2 of us at the moment, we're hoping to get a dog soon and we may be starting a family in the next couple of years, so we were thinking of a 4/6 berth. Also the extra space would be useful for storage.

We're looking for a good quality tent that is relatively quick and easy to erect. My partner would prefer a bedroom she can stand up in.

Whilst at the showroom we were drawn to towards tents that were light and airy, lots of doors and windows, bedrooms that were at the back of the tent with plenty of living space at the front (as these seem to increase the amount of light available in the living area).

At the moment we tend to only camp for a max. of 4 nights but with a bigger more comfortable tent we'd probably extend this to a week.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which of these tents would be most suitable and aslo if there are any other tents that would be better than the one's already mentioned (just to confuse me more )

Your best bet is to go to a tent show and see them all for yourself. There may be info on this site or goto google and search tent shows in your area. We got our first tent from one and were extremely happy. i don't think anyone except you can make your mind up. I will say however that i always go for Sunncamps

Hi

If your getting a dog it would be a good idea to get a tent with a SIG (sewn in ground sheet) a lot harder for it to escape out of the tent.

Good luck

One of the diferentiators will be "standing up" in the bedrooms - so if this is one of the main criteria, I would would put dome tents to the bottom of your shortlist 9but don't exclude them just over this).

Start with tunnel tents like Vario etc you have on your list and add in the usual Outwell faves: Sunnvalley, Indiana and Montana.

Also worth a look are the very comfortable Vango Aspens and Sunncamp equic the Oasis.

How about something like this? it has a SIG and you can stand up in all of the bedrooms we have the deluxe version (see my gallery) and love it to bits.

i have a Khyam Galaxy 600. It is only for me and the wife but have had six in it. It has 3 bedrooms in it and you can choose to put up 1 or all of them to make more room in the tent. It is easy to put up if there is two of you and not too expensive.

Wow!  7 Responces already!  How quick was that?  4 minutes from the time of posting for the 1st message!  Thanks a lot!

Lots of useful suggestions particularly about the SIG and the standing up in bedrooms differentiator.  Cheers guys and gals!  Hope return the favour sometime.

I've phoned all the camping equipment suppliers locally to see if they have my shortlist available to veiw but to no avail (I live in Gosport (near Portsmouth) by the way).  But I migrate to Birmingham once a month to visit family, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any good camping equipment suppliers on route (M27, M3, A34, M42, M40, M5) or even in and around Brum?  Also does anyone know of any impending camping shows on the same route?

Cheers
