We had a good weekend last weekend at Hadrians wall. We have a nice caravan, all mod cons, but the wife was off on a Hen Party so it was just me and the lad, so we took the tent, a 4 man tunnel (must be 4 very small men). Well we loved it and would like to do some more tenting in the summer. So if I tell you the down side of the tent we had can you help wit a bit of advice. Consider we want to use it in summer (still a bit soft for winter camping) and we want to take 2 adults and one child, yes going to take the wife as well.

1  The tunnel was to low for adults and we could use a bit more room

2  We need a bit more protection against the cold nights, better tent, better beds, heating.

So any help welcome, did like the look of the Outwell and liked it a lot, well think thats what it was called...Current tent is a Vango

Have a look at the khyam Yale. There are some photos at the link in my profile and you can watch a video of it being put up on the Khyam website. Great tent for a couple or small family.

Like both of these tent and think thats about the size we need, pods or no pods that is the question. But more to the point we are tin tenters, would we be able to put it up (remember we are tin tenters) and what about keeping warm at night? Cost is not an issue at the price these come in but any idea what the cost of each one is? Like a good deal LOL.

Any more recomendations welcome..

Yes thats just how we are viewing it "an alternative" somthing to do in the summer. A change from the caravan.

As for warmth your sleeping bag is the ticket not the tent, we was not cold at dent nore any other place just good bags and used gas lantens for lighting, if we on ehu a small fan heater to keep chill out.

The Yale is simple to erect as it is just an inner first 4 hoop tunnel tent and tunnel tents are considered to be the easiest to put up with no crossovers. It takes 2 of us about 35 minutes to put up and peg out. The Yale is £150 for the Khyam 2006 model but the Campus 2005 model is available at outdoormegastore for £99

We moved from caravan to frame tent 13 years ago and after a couple of changes of tent to suit our needs my wife & I have the Marechal Vario 5 Canopy tunnel tent.

This gives us all the space of the frame tent but with smaller pack size, it is just as easy to erect as the frame tent and continues to give vast amounts of usable living area.

It all comes down to personal choice.

Hi omega, I've just bought a nevada tunnel tent from argos, it's 220cm high that works out at about 7ft I think. It's arriving on Thursday so fingers crossed we'll get the weather to try it out at the weekend and see what its like. I read another thread on here about this tent and it seems ok, it's been hard choosing another tent!

I can certainly recommend an Outwell Montana 6.  It has plenty of space, standing height all the way through ( including the bedrooms and I am nearlt 6feet tall ).  Takes about half an hour for 2 of us to errect and I can do it on my own if need be.  It has a full sewn-in-groundsheet so helps with the draughts.  Plenty of windows so the light can get through and also can have an optional front canopy for somewhere sheltered to sit outside, and an optional side canopy should you wish to do a bit of cooking undercover.  It has all steel poles and is extremely tolerant of the weather conditions.  There only real downside is that they arn't cheap.

As for keeping warm.  Buy a good set of sleeping bags.  We have just purchased the Vango Nitestar 450 bags which are 4 season bags and extremely warm.  They cost around £35 each.  If you don't like the mummy style bags then there is a Vango Nitestar 300 Square Bag or the Vango Astral 350 bag.  The Astral bags come in big carry bags so if space is an issue the NiteStar bags would be better.
