Hi there, we are new to camping with children; we have two, 6 and 2 years and the six year old flatly refuses to sare a pod with the two year old. Even though the two year old will be in with us for some time, we are looking for a three bedroom tent that is relatively easy and quick to errect.   However, our heads have been swayed by the Vango Vail and the Diabalo 900, neither of which appear to fulfil the above criteria. Does anyone out there have either of these tents (or can recommend others for that matter)? I never realised how difficult it would be to chose a tent, we bought our house without as much deliberation! Thankyou

A few questions, would help us - how much do you want to spend? is this primarly for weekends or weeks away? how are you transporting it (some fo these can be monster space eaters in the boot!)?

If you don't want a very large tent (and generally larger they are, the more trouble they can be to errect and more space they take in teh car), look at a tent with a SIG, where you can sleep in the living area and have just two pods connected.

Two that come to mind, are the Sunncamp Magnum (a new 2005 model is around £135 which is a great price) and the Wynnster Orion. If you like the Orion, last years model called the Anglesey is still on sale and cheaper for around £190. And note, with the Orion/Anglesey, the bedroom is split in to two by a perm divider, so your 6 and 2 year old would not be together.

A campus/Khyam Yale, also relatively cheap, would allow you to do this and still be a smallish tent to carry and errect.

Hi, if you like the Vango Vail, have you considered the Aspen? the bedrooms can be devided and opened in various ways which might help with your 2 year old. The Vango Vail is HUGE and I don't know if it has a SIG if you prefer one??  The Diablo and Vail are very differnt tents so i suppose it comes down to personal taste for layout etc. Don't envy you though it's a mine field when you start looking isn't it?

I just bought a kyham indiana 8 yesterday, Its a true 8 berth tunnel tent with 1x4 berth pod with a seperator to convert it into 2x2berth pods and 2 seperate 2 berth pods at the other end of the tent, i also have 2 kids aged 11/13 who need a degree of space between them for everybodys sanity. The price was a reasonable £220, I can't say anything about how good the tent is in the field because I havent pitched it yet but it certainly looks like its gonna serve my needs till the kids go their own ways.

We bought a gelert cyclone 6 from halfords - currently on offer at circa £150 (was £300). Massive living area with three separate bedroom pods. Had same problem as you with two young kids - suits us perfectly

Hi, have you looked at the Vango Vista 800?  That would probably suit your needs, its still a large tent, but lighter than the Vail, and they are very easy to erect.  There are a few other 8 berth tunnels out there with a 4+2+2 bedroom layout.  If you're looking for ease of pitching, I would consider a tunnel.

Vango Vista 800, Suncamp Haven 800 (SIG I think), Gelert Alaska 8, Outdoor Revolution Scenic 4.4.

Just to confuse you a bit more!

All the best,
Alison
