Hello,

I wonder if anyone here can advise me on my next tent purchase.

We're after a strong tent that will perform well in winds (we camp at Orkney a fair bit!). We don't want a huge family tent with lots of bedrooms, just something that will fit our airbed in (200cm by 130cm) and give us as much porch space as possible. I have looked at the Vango Hydra 300+ but it would seem this won't be big enough for the airbed. I know that you get more space with a tunnel rather than a Geo or Semi-geo design but am unsure how will these perform in strong winds.

I keep thinking I've seen the perfect tent and then something crops up to put me off.

Does anyone have any recommendations of something for the job. I am quite interested in The North Face Fortress 33, any thoughts? Also Vango Equinox 350 but because the sleeping compartment narrows towards the end am unsure if our airbed will fit it  - the dimensions I can find don't seem to be able to help me figure this out.

We won't be backpacking with it so weight isn't really a consideration.

Thanks

How about and Equnox 450 to give you a bit more room in the living area, as you don't need to put the second bedroom up.

The 450 is a very good tent for bad conditions, and a good size for two people. We have the older version, (pre the second bedroom type), and found it to be robust and roomy. We only bought the Outwell Winfield, because we wanted to be able to stand up in the tent.

Well, after a lot of deliberation I went for the North Face Fortress 33. It was the initial one that took my fancy and I just kept going back to it. I bombarded North Face with questions about it and was happy with the information I received.

It arrived yesterday (fantastic service and price from www.venturesport.co.uk ) and we pitched it in the garden last night to check everything was ok. It looks great, strong and sturdy and wasn't difificult to erect - although there was absolutely wind or rain! It's an excellent size, the porch is spot-on and the bedroom feels spacious and airy.

We're off to Scotland and Orkney a week on Saturday and we can't wait to give the tent a proper outing. I'll keep you updated on how it fairs. One of the problems I had buying the tent was that I couldn't find any reviews (or home photos) on the net, I'll be contributing to this once we've been away.

It is now my avatar and I have a picture of it in the gallery if anyone's interested.

Deb
