Spoke to someone in the tent department last weekend at Camperlands in Manchester and he told me the problems with the Nebraska were down to 1 bad batch and they had all been recalled!!! According to him the problems will be sorted out for the 2008 model. Yeah right

according to s.k.camping all the people on here that say the've had problems are reps from other companies trying to discredit outwell & that legal action is pending because there are no leaks.

I will not be touching an Outwell with a barge-pole until I start getting positives from people on here. There are too many people unhappy to even contemplate buying one at the moment. From what I have read so far I would be better off with a 12 foot seive than buy a Nebraska XL. Outwell as a company in general do not fill me with much confidence - customer services, well just generally contacting them seems to be a bit of a nightmare - too much like hard work. Khyam for example have a contact number (UK) as well as an e-mail address, I'm not saying they are fantastic but it's a start, Outwell on the other hand - (contact your local dealer).

Enough said there I think

Well thats complete and utter tosh if ever I heard it.

They are trying to use any excuse possible to get out of replacing you tent which is disgusting. World of camping have exchanged 2 Nebraska XL's on my Behalf both due to leaking and both were checked afterwards BY world of camping. we are now on our third outwell which is a Vermont XL which we posted pics of here:

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=32&TopicID=120099&PagePosition=1&ThreadPage=1&get=last#1861827

Tell S.K camping my Name is Brian Bartell and id be happy to hear about this frivolous legal action being planned by Outwell against Honest campers who have been sold faulty tents especially as even now we still bought yet another Outwell..

The service you have recieved from S.K camping is disgusting and as such should be boycotted by every member of this forum for blatant Lies just to escape an exchange

I personally will never e ver order for them after hearing the tripe they tryed to spin you.. lets hope there buisness suffers due to there own incompetance and lying ways.

P.S. If they do want my full name and address then all they have to do is email me and ill prove im no Rep

ALSO if your tent is still within your years warranty then inform Trading standards now that you are disputing there reason so that there is a written record of the fault with a date at an official organisation before the tent goes out of warranty as no matter what they say if it leaks with one year they are obliged by LAW to change it and they do not have a leg to stand on.

Hi my first posting, so please go easy on me!

Bought a Nebraska XXL after convincing my husband camping is the thing to do... (after a fantastic august bank holiday in a tent in Tenby with  3 year old!). Anyway.

Bought it brand new off  a private seller on Ebay (never been opened etc. etc) erected it in the garden and last night it leaked - not badly, I'd taken out the bedroom 'pods' so I'd see if there are puddles in it.  3 small puddles. Looks like I've got a duff one!

No contact details for Outwell.  They direct you to dealers, can't imagine they'd be happy to take up a problem on a tent they've not sold... Any suggestions? I'm afraid to show hubby in case he refuses to go away in it (next year!)

thanks, Linda

the problem is with the seams,,, it may look unsightly but if you put enough applications of seam sealant on you will find it will stop leaking, this is your only option as I cant see you being able to get it changed if you bought it off ebay

Ican confirm that treating the seams will cure it ( you will have to retreat it every now & then).by the way the "nice" people at sk camping eventually replaced our leaking nebraska xxl but they only repaid half the postage.still, I see it as a result.I have treated the seams as a precaution, so fingers crossed....And thanks for the support, it does make a difference. anybody who has had a dispute will know how isolated you feel when you are forced to fight for what you are entitled to through awful customer service,

craig

Thanks everyone,

The tent is brand new and the man from Ebay is being very helpful, I think he's talking to his supplier.  To be honest it doesn't bother me - it's only 3 tiny puddles, but my husband is insisting it should be 'fit for the purpose'.

Thanks for the 'sealing' advice, but I'll hold off putting anything on it until all other avenues have been explored.  My father (who camps regularly) said - stop whinging - it's a lovely tent - get out and enjoy it ! - I'm on his side....

thanks again

We bought a Nebraska XL from SK Camping in October 2006 and this has leaked even though their only advise is to seam seal it which we have done. We have contacted them again and we have to take the tent back to them for them to discuss with Outwell what to do next. This leaves us without a tent and we are set to go camping again in August. I have contacted someone from oase-outdoors.com and he seems very confident to get this matter sorted sooner than later. As soon as I emailed him the same day I received a reply asking where I purchased the tent from so maybe we'll be getting somewhere with some action.

Bought second hand Nebraska XL from Ebay in July 2008, 2006 model, there were a few minor leaks (roof window taping and inside corner of where the porch meets the tent -bottom)  that a bit of seam sealant quickly sorted. What I did notice is the water is pooling from below (soaking through the sewn in groundsheet). This is what happened.

we pitched the tent in heavy rain onto a non-porous tarpaulin (to protect the SIG), the tarpaulin jutted out further than the stormflaps and thus collected the rain. The water pooled in the low points of the tarpaulin and soaked up through the porous (breatheable) SIG into the tent. The floor of the bedroom pods aren't waterproof and as such the water soaked into these.

On the parts where the tarpaulin didn't pool the water the groundsheet was dry. Where the tent overshot the tarpaulin and rested on the waterlogged grass the groundsheet absorbed water albeit at a much slower rate.

I don't doubt that there were and sometimes still are leaky seams, but it wouldn't surprise me if many of the historic reports of 'leaky' outwells are down to the use of very cheap PVE in the SiGs. If you were to use a footprint, there would be no overhang, no pooling and little water inside the tent. I would like to know if the later 2007/2008 models have a thicker or less porous PVE groundsheet. And how many early adopters of the outwells pitched on wet grass, had overhanging groundsheets before purchasing a footprint.

Next time we pitch i'll underhang the groundsheet and compare experiences - because finding a footprint for this tent is being a bit of a pig.
