Put our new Monty 4 up in OH's sisters back garden last weekend and left it up until Thursday to give it a real good test.
We closed ALL the doors AND ventilation ducts before we left as the weather was, and did, turn very wet.
When we checked it out, there were some very small puddles of water inside the living area.
The trouble is, with out being in there when it rained, I’m not sure if it was rain leaking in or just condensation that might have built up when the cold rain was hitting a warm tent.
Any thought's?
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
I had a similar thing on our Sunncamp, There was no evidence of leaks however going by the location of the tablespoon sized pools of water either side, I am of the opinion that the wind forced the rain up under the vent covers and through the mesh. At least I hope that's the case.
If you visit any tent display as soon as the shop opens in the morning you will find a fine amount of condensation on most of the polyester tents. If you have left the tent for a few days any condensation that has dropped to the floor due to wind or rain hitting the flysheet will pool. I love tents with a sewn in ground sheet but they do tend to have nore condensation than tents with clip in ground sheets as they have more venting around the bottom.
I only know of one tent maker that says there tents are 100% waterproof and thats Wild country. Tents have to many zips, vent, and seams to be 100% water proof.
We have a Monty 4 and find that the window areas are prone to condensation.
To keep the condensation at bay we open the ventilation duct above the side window, you don't get any rain in via it, unless the wind is blowing the rain in that direction.
