Hi All

My family & I have just returned from a short holiday in Cotherstone, weather was a bit of a mixed bag

I have 2 topics to discuss

1)We had a budget priced 4pers Vango (dome style) rubbish in the wind, this formed a small hole a so we have dumped it !

2)This problem might be related to the above ,we were all sleeping on airbeds in sleeping bags, every morning we would find a layer of moisture on the top of the airbeds and under the bags ,how can we stop this happening

Hi Stewey, Welcome to UKCS.

To answer both points was surprised you dumped the tent, Vango dont really make budget tents. If the weather is poor or storm force then the best of tents will struggle to standup to it.

It is not uncommon to get damp patches between sleeping bag and airbed due to the temperature differential between them. If the airbed is sitting on the groundsheet, the air in it will cool overnight. Many people will recommend putting a picnic mat between the airbed and the groundsheet  or one between the airbed and your sleeping bag. You can even do both and have a number of layers betwen you and the ground.

Hi

To answer your second question - As the ground is very wet after several days of rain, there is a danger of your body heat causeing moisture to rise through the breathable groundsheet resulting in condensation on your bedding.

to overcome this simply pitch your tent ontop of a PVC groundsheet and ensure that the air vents are open to their max.

Grass underneath the PVC groundsheet will not discolour or die for upto 4 days.

Hope this helps

Dave

Was really suprised to hear that Stewy we have just come back from a weekend in my Vango 400. It was gale force winds but it stayed put. Mind you I have got Delta pegs. Today earlier on the sight it wrecked a trailor tent, but ours was fine. I was really pleased as the wind was very scary. It had also wrecked some of the awnings on the caravans. We had to be a bit carefill when opening and shutting openings.

As for the dampness we didn't have a problem but we did have a tarp under the tent.

My husband has a nylon sleeping bag and I put a cotton sheet under it. My sleeping bag is a cotton one it was fine
