Hi all

My sister is now a one parent family with 4 kids. We want to be able to take her away with us and is currently looking at this tent to buy. Does anyone know of this tent? All comments appreciated. I don'y want her to waste her money if its no good. Thanks.

Personally if she's going to spend that sort of money she could go with the 2006 range og vango's-http://www.outdooraction.co.uk/acatalog/6_TO_9_BERTH_TENTS.html

The colorado 600 dlx is only £175. Food for thought!!

Argos would not be my first point of call if buying a tent.  Their tents are not that well spec'ed and look a bit expensive to me.

I suggest you pay a visit to your local campng shop and see what's on offer.

Basically a 3 bedroom tent, 1 double sleeping bag & mattress, 4 single sleeping bags and mattresses - all for £150.

Argos would not be my first point of call, but thats not a bad price, if the quality is OK.

Compare it to, lets say, £100 for a better tent, something like an on-offer Canpus Yale, which would leave you £50 for the sleeping bags and mattresses - not that much if you add it up.

However, I would want to see what the quality is like...

Thanks all i really appreciate your opinions. I think we will give the argos one a miss. I know she wants a tent with quite a big living area with sewn in grounsheet. So we will start looking at all your suggestions.

Otherwise it is keep an eye out for S/H tent sales. You should get something suitable/desirable for around £80-£120 S/H.

I can see the appeal of the Argos package as it includes several essentials. The  tent will not be bad - a friend of mine has a small one of theirs, but she only camps occasionally so it is fine for her, but the build quality is not great compared to other  makes like Vango, Outwell etc, so if your sister is wanting something that will provide family holidays for years to come then it may be better to look for something else. I do know that their sleeping bags are quite goos - my sis got new sleeping bags from there last year, and when my niece came camping with me I was impressed with the 4 season bag she had got.

If you scroll further down that list from mifty12, of 2006 Vango tents from Outdoor action here, there is the Vango Oregon 800 at an incredible £135. This has 4 bedrooms, a big living space and whilst it does not have a full SIG in the living area, it does have a riser groundsheet, which comes up the sides a little way, thus cutting out drafts. The tunnel shape is the most simple to pitch (I can do our 6 berth Vango Quest single handed if necessary).

The Outdoor action listing does not give much detail on the tent, but you can check out the info on Wild day here to get a better idea of its qualities, including the unique tension band system which is great for superior stability (and an indoor washing line!)

Would definatly give the argos one a miss, my friend had the smaller starter set, the tent leaked like a sieve and had to be thrown in the bin and the sleeping bags were made of really cheap material, good makes to look out for are Vango, Khyam, Outwell, Quechua, Sunncamp, Cabannon which are all built to a high standard and will last for many years.

My sister got the vango oregon 800 in the end. Put it up yesterday, it took 2 of us an hour and half (never put a tent up before!) Sis is over the moon with it. Thanks everyone for your advice.

For a first time an hour and a half isn't too bad, if she practices more before she goes she will be fine. I have seen officers in the military take that long to put up a frame tent, (and their was eight of them). the tent she chose was on my shortlist to buy until the boss told me what we should buy  still good luck to her.
