Hi Harvey

I'm sure whichever tent you go for you'll be happy with and like Nikki found, everyone will recommend their own tent!  We liked the front porch of the SV but in the end we chose the Monty 6 (plus a front canopy) over the SV because the former has steel poles and we're used to a sturdy frame tent.  We're not fair-weather campers - if we book a holiday we go, whatever the weather, so we wanted to know the tent would stand up to the wind.

I don't know how long it takes to erect a SV but after some practise it takes us about 30 minutes to pitch our Monty.

Happy camping!

Same dilema i had monty 6 or SV8.

I guess pitching time would be about the same for both tbh.Looks to be about the same number of steps to pitching each, but the monty will be heavier when raising the poles.

I personnally dismissed the SV8 when i first looked at tents i just didn't like the look of it as the monty is a great looking tent. But in the end i opted for the SV8 due to the extra removable bedroom pod which is a godsend for storing stuff, the pack sizes quoted for the SV were smaller than the monty's and the inner porch bit on the SV with it's seperate groundsheet is great as muck/wet can be left out of sig'ed area.Oh and it was on offer when i purchased one which made it a bit cheaper but only about £20 at the time.If i was buying now at £330 for a monty or £399 for an SV8 i'd pick a monty.

Either tent i think you'll be happy but choosing the right one for you is soo hard.

Hi Harvey,

Bit of a dilemma you've got there....we'd only put a cheapy Ebay tent up twice before we decided to splash out on the SV8. The SV8 is a doddle to put up....got some details of how we do it if you go down that route. I guess I end up taking about an hour (with OH help) to erect the SV8 and get it how I'm happy with it and guy'd out. But I do like to take my time and get it right.

You've probably read all the SV8 owners comments on here (including mine), so I won't repeat them again. However, if I was buying again, I'd still opt for the SV8.

Cheers,

Pete.

Hiya Harvey, just wanted to say I am thrilled with my SV. I purchased it for my husbands birthday and my sister and I (who have never put up a tent especially in a small space like my garden!!) managed to put it up in just over 45mins. I can honestly say it is light and easy to put up with more than enough room inside for us all.

hope this helps.

Nikki
