So you know that there are some good poles around, the set that came with my Vermont XL from Yeomans are fine, so it appears that this could be an isolated incident with small batch of poles.
I would hang on to a dodgy set of poles until you get a good set - and tell the shop that unless you have the replacements in time for your hols you will use the faulty ones and still expect a replacement. Then I guess just a wipe off with a damp cloth should get rid of enough residue to let you at least use the tent.
Just got back from our Easter break. Vermont l was excellent had a much easier time putting it up and taking it down this time. Only problem was the flap that covers the door zips was actually sewn to the tent and has torn some of the stitching where the tent joins the mudflap. I'm going to email All Weathers about getting a replacement, also we did notice that some of the zips had gaps in them where the teeth weren't quite meeting together properly. Fingers crossed for the replacement.

Glad you had a nice break, and glad you like the Vermont l. We think ours is ace! I'm so envious of all you guys that got away at Easter! Hope you get the problems sorted really soon! Will be interested to know how you get on, I bought my Vermont l from them and they were really helpfull. Hope their after sales is just as good.
Just to let you know the after service at All Weathers was excellent (apart from minor hick up re delivery day!). They gave us the choice of keeping the old one and refunding us some money or exchanging the faulty tent. We opted for the new tent and there was absolutely no problem. Have just received the new tent today, fingers crossed that there are no problems with it. Would definately reccomend All Weathers and would certainly buy from them again.
Went out in our Vermont L at the weekend. Its the 5th trip in it now but strangely, this time I had the same problem that has been reported above with it not quite sitting properly on the left hand side. On the previous 4 trips I didn't seem to have a problem. I played around for ages but could not get the tent perfectly straight. On the second day, I took the whole tent down and re-pitched it. The same problem was there. I am almost sure that I never had this problem on any of our other trips in it but could be wrong.
From what I can see, the problem appears to be that the straps that go down the non-adjustable side of the tent are a little too tight so no matter what you do, you cannot get the material to lay perfectly even across the centre of the poles. I have never understood why Outwell make every single pegging point adjustable except the few down the left had side. If they did make them adjustable then this problem would be very easy to fix.
I managed to get it right in the end but it wasn't easy. Basically, when errecting the tent I had to put in the adjustable pegging points first and tighten them up before putting in the non-adjustable pegging points. This made them very difficult to get in but afterwards it was all perfectly straight.
Also, a word of warning. The mud flaps are not very strong. I gave one of my adjustable point just an extra little tug ( and thats all it was, no pressure at all ) and the mud flap ripped. It doesn't affect the operation of the tent, my it has peed me off a bit especially as it was a brand new tent.

We found that we had to push the poles in a bit rather than spreading them out. Must say it got a little harder as we got nearer the fron but much much easier than the first time we erected it. We have just had our replacement delivered. The flap going over one of the door zips was sewn to the tent and ripped the seam, so we shall have to see how this one goes.
