I am a complete newbie to camping (hubby has tried to talk me into it for years). We have been looking for a tent and I now feel totally overwhelmed!! We need a tent that is suitable for weekends and also for a week or two in scotland, then hopefully abroad next year. We also like the idea of just taking it for the two of us for a night away if we can find a babysitter!
Our teenage son is adamant that he is not coming camping yet we still need to find a tent big enough because we know he will probably change his mind the night before! Our other son is seven and is going to absolutely love it.
We were first looking at the Kyham Yale, then the Sunncamp Evolution 600 (new model, then the Sunncamp Haven 600. Now I am totally lost, am I making it too hard for myself, should we buy one for this year and see how we get on. I think I am starting to go mad!!!!!!
By the way this is a great forum and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx.

Listening to what you are saying you need from a tent I would go for the Coleman Galileo L. Very easy for a first timer to put up, Loads of room with two bedrooms.
Great as a weekend tent due to east set up but with the steel poles and weathermaster pedigree it would be ideal for a longer stay. Very weatherproof so ideal for a stay in Scotland.
Thanks very much for your replies. We had a good look round United British Caravans which is why I got so confused because I liked them all. I think though we are going to go for the Sunncamp Ventura. It seems just the right size and price to start off with for weekends (and to ease ourselves into the camping experience) and then probably look for a second bigger tent for longer holidays away next year, once I know what I am doing! As I said hubby has tried to talk me into camping for 14 years so he wants to make sure nothing puts me off. Ever heard the phrase ' if the kids are happy, then the parents are happy' well in his case its 'if the wife is happy then husband is relieved'.
I never in my wildest dreams thought I would get this excited about camping, now I can't wait to go.
Thanks once again for your replies.

Just a thought but would your teenager be happier in a pup tent of his own? Just wondered as over several years all three of our daughters (youngest now 12) gradually moved out of our big 3 bedroom tent.
we've already asked if my son would like to sleep on his own. He has his own two man tent that he has often slept in, in the back garden with his friends, but he now states that he has never enjoyed it and doesn't want to do it again. We wonder if it is more to do with us, his parents, as nothing we do is considered cool enough for him at the moment (especially as he is 15 and all grown up - he thinks) and god forbid if he is seen to enjoy himself in our company!!!I
Hi my otherhalfs son comes with us and he is 14 he loves it, however his sister makes friends and we hardly ever see her but he never leaves our side can`t decide wether he thinks he is going to miss something to go home to report to his mam or he thinks he is to cool to join in with the other lads playing football etc.
I think he thinks that if he doesn't come he will be allowed to stay on his own in the house. What he doesn't realise is that is where strict Nanna's come in very handy.
If he asks to camp out this year in the back garden I will scream!
