We will be staying in Kendal for a week
In the summer .
I would like to have a day tour by bus . Is there a hop on off bus from Kendal ?
Also I notice you can travel by train to Windermere . Has anyone on here done this ?? Thank you .

When we are in the lakes, we just use the ordinary busses which are excellent. You can buy a day ticket that allows you unlimited travel on the busses in a particular area for the whole day or of course, if you have a senior travel pass, you can use them for free. They also have a weekly ticket if you want to use the busses for the whole week

As Pixie Hez mentions, there is a frequent 555 service from Kendal, link to timetable

Stagecoach also run an open top bus service, 599, but best to check the timetable nearer your holiday.

the train to windermere runs every 15 minutes apart

Any form of transport would be cheaper than paying for parking in the Lake district. There isn't a lot in Kendal or Windermere town ( unless you want the Lakeland store). Best go to Bowness on Windermere although it's jam packed with tourists most of the year.

And don't forget to take waterproofs - even in summer

As said in a previous post, buy a day ticket for the 555 bus that runs between Kendal and Keswick via Windermere, Rydal, Grasmere and Thirlmere.

We stayed at the CCC site at Kendal & enjoyed walking into the town, which has an interesting arts centre cum brewery & lots of wee eateries. When we were there last year, there was a good deal on the buses but that might not be available in 2024.
You might need to drive to the National Trust place south of town (Sizergh, lots of walks); Levens Hall (amazing topiary) is not NT but we enjoy visiting; and Blackwell House (Art Deco or is it Art Nouveau) has no bus stop.
