Hi all, I’m about to take my CBT, and then my full bike license, direct access, my question is,,,, is there a maximum age at which insurance is difficult to get for a motorbike / scooter.
I shouldn’t want to spend in excess of a thousand pound for my license, not to be able to get insurance.
I might add I’m well into retirement, and feel 40.

Hi, great to hear you are joining the motorcycling family. I haven't heard about prices shooting up past a certain age, I think it has far more to do with the type of motorcycle you ride and your experience. Are you doing the A category test or the A2? A lot of new riders and even people that have been riding for years are riding A2 class bikes, these are especially popular with riders around retirement age and above. A2 bikes are generally cheaper to insure than A class bikes especially for new riders, many insurers charge eye-watering premiums for new riders on A class bikes. I ride a Honda ST1100, which is an A class bike, I am 42 years old and have held a full motorcycle licence for almost 25 years. I have full NCD and I am paying just over £200 a year for comprehensive cover. I have heard of new riders on A class bikes being quoted £2000 or more, and they are not all young guys.
There are quite a lot of people riding later in life and I'm not
aware of any massive insurance price hikes when you hit a certain age.

Hi both, really interesting replies, I think just A2, I was thinking of a 125 just for sight seeing when away in van, also I guess
? It would fit on the back of my T5, not too sure about that would have to check?
I was also wondering about a Piaggio MP3 as I wouldn’t then need the A2, but then I’d need a trailer, which is ok as I already have a 6x4 although I’d need a new one SH to fit the Piaggio.
Anyway by all accounts I’m just a young un, at 71..
Thanks for replies.
