Off to Fields End Water near March this week end for a week, they have some nice lakes so I will endevour to drown a few maggots, we usually go sea fishing but it makes a change in the summer.

Had a few hours out on Tuesday only had one bite but it was well worth it as it turned out to be exactly 20lbs. My first 20lber this year but hopefully not the last. As you can see it is a nice chunky fish.
I realise this is not a good picture but it was the best I could do as no one else was there.

Hi Les.... long time no see...Thats a cracking carp..Well done you!!!
Ive recently joined a carp group up here in Scotland..and started fishing seriously for them earlier this year...Still no catch reports from me...But witnessed a nice 14lb common carp being landed two weekends ago...Was this lads 1st Scottish carp(in 3 yrs of trying) so everyone round the lake was made up for him..and as pleased to see it on the bank as he was....

Hi Jelboy it is a beautiful fish. I have not had the opportunity to get out much what with the Grandchildren. But a day like that makes it all worth while. We are away from Saturday to Tuesday. Ihope to get out again later next week and who knows what will happen then. I have been told that there is one that is almost 30lbs in there, now that would be very nice.

As far as I am aware Carp have never been that big in the majority of waters in Scotland. So if you can get onto some of the bigger waters, then you could get some very nice doubles.

I'll tell you how bad it is up here...Everyone is getting excited about rumours..rumours mind you...that a 28lbs common might...or might not...have been caught from one of our waters!!! Have heard there are bigger up here...but in private waters???

I haven't been fishing for some years now but there are good lakes at most of the campsites at Brean in Somerset and the last one I went to was Sumners Ponds in West Sussex.
I haven't used anything other than bread or luncheon meat for years, float fished on the bottom, and caught some pretty nice fish...bream, carp, tench etc.

I mainly just use bread and have it floating on the top. I have had some very good days on the best one I had 37 Carp up to 15lb. My mate had 39 up to 16 1/2lbs.

I only tried that once and caught a duck...put me off using that method again

My son and I tried that method on a fishery 2-3yrs ago and had a good day catching small carp to 5lbs in the margins...Not to be recommended on most of the waters I fish up here cos of the abundant waterfowl...who...at the 1st sign of bread...will be over to your swim from the far side of the lake like a shot...Ducks and Swans aint condusive to using freelined bread....

I have got to admit that is one of the biggest problems with floating bread. Where I go the birds are very wary of Bread. The last thing to do is try and feed them off it is impossible.
I now use a running rig and once I have cast out I pull the bread under the surface between 6 and 12 inches.
