Dd is 12. What is the best options - just snorkelling or are they better taking a PADI course? If a course, which is best and what to look for in a diving school to ensure they are safe and get the best out of it.

  well with all you diving abroad it leaves more room in British waters for us who dive here & enjoy it, & not just when on holiday but all year round, may be a bit cold at times but makes you more hardy not warm weather only divers

when I started in 1975 it was wet suits so I dont take to much notice of a bit of a leak now & again,Stoney have not been there in years give me the coast any time

  Did the south coast a few times & enjoyed the wreck diving, but quite a few trips were cancelled due to the good old UK weather, plus the vis wasn't always the best. Got a bit spoiled when first dived abroad though, with the warm water, fish life and the excellent visibility. Certainly a change from diving the mucky puddle (gildenburg) although Stoney was excellent for training & taking novices... have fond memories of my diving days & made some good friends too...

Only dived once abroad in Malta got to admit it was good, but I am a member of SWMAG, we only do under water Archeaology these days, lastest is a Bronze Age site at Salcombe & this takes up all of my diving as we go once a month all year, like to do more but its 250mls each way & costs us about £250/300 a weekend. each still as they say you cannot take it with you so enjoy it while you can.

Did my first 50 mtr dive on Gozo. Great vis but not a lot marine life. Really impressed with your under water Archaeology projects. Gives you something worth while to do, and like you say you can't take it with you.... like me, you are also a fair way from any coast.... Enjoy...

  Funny thing it was gozo where I did my first 50mt, on the outside of the inland sea about 18yrs ago, another coincedence is my Dad, when he dived back in the late 50s early 60s with British Timpkin branch they use to dive with Bedford Branch

Was a member of  Bedsac in the 90's, then a few disgruntled members decided to form a new club called  The Bedford Scuba Divers  where i completed my training. Only got to a Dive leader but passed my advanced diver exam, before leaving in early 2000 .. Not sure if they are still going tbh. I was really hooked for nearly a decade & got into trouble with my wife a few times for going off Diving at w/ends. Now i fish & my wife encourages it....

Wow just been on BSD web site & there are a couple of pic's of me in the red sea !! Totally gobsmacked.

  I am a meber of Northamptn BSAC 13, we have had them same with break away groups over the years we are now down to about 25 members including social members there are only 3 of us who dive on a regular basis, but we have no young members in the club or our group, but as long as we keep fit we carry on with our projects in Devon,& keep busy with caravan & diving including filming with different TV companys. more to come in 2011 

I took a Padi course in Thailand (Many years ago).

It was an entirely enjoyable experience, straight into the sea ( shallow water training) got used to the gear, We sat in a circle underwater & took turns doing exercises, mask off/on, clearing, pack off, etc..etc.. I had a hang up about taking my mask off so I got picked on to keep doing it.   Sorted my problem  .

Loads of theory in class room, may be I was lucky with the instructors ?

Never had a bad experience at any time.  I like warm water diving & have found the training very useful over the years, I occasionally clear props on boats & odd underwater jobs.  Love it.. No interest in deep water diving.

I would never have passed the BSAC course, as I am not a strong surface swimmer. No problems under it .
