If in Wales a trip to Powis castle at Welshpool is also excellent, built in 1200 they have a deer park and beautiful gardens also National Trust property  http://www.castlewales.com/powis.html Also the green events at Llanwrtyd may appeal to the wacky campers, Man v Horse (runners race against 50 horses) is on 8th June, they have stone skimming competitions also walks of the drovers, following old drover trails on 22nd June and the infamous bog snorkeling http://www.green-events.co.uk/ Not for me I must admit, but my sister has done Man v Horse despite a horse allergy!!

Visit Llandrindod Wells! Great scenery, walks, cycling, red kites. Ideal for exploring Mid Wales.

Tenby South Wales on the Pembrokeshire Coast, stayed at the Haven site a couple of times, beautiful harbour lots of scenery nearby, and Pembroke Castle not far away.
