If you’re a member of the National Trust, don’t forget to take your cards as quite a lot of the carparks around the coast in that area are owned by the National Trust and therefore are free for National Trust members if you scan your card at the pay-and-display machine. We really liked Knoll beach, which is managed by the National Trust.

Failing that you will need to take out a second mortgage just to pay the car parking charges in the Swanage area. However, there is free parking within the surrounding residential areas and then walk into town.

Yesterday cost us £7.40 for 6 hours parking as we did the Swanage to Poole cruise even though we have a Blue Badge and a tax exempt vehicle. Every one pays on exceptions! However if you park on street in a parking baya BB can park for free. Al around the area everywhere you. go there is a charge for parking even in some supermarket car parks.
A few years back I was astounded to see that the seafront car park at Swanage (near the pier) had credit card machines to pay for your parking. It was the first car park I had ever seen that had card machines, and no doubt it is because the charges are so high that people never carry that amount of cash around with them.
I used to either walk into town, or get a bus (bus pass) from the campsite entrance so have never had to pay for parking.

Like that in Swanage, Poole, Bournemouth and Chrsitchurch. Contactless payment. We find it easy and convenient to use.

I think most parking meters are going over to cards now. No likelihood of them getting broken into for the cash, and no need for someone to go round and empty them all.
I'll be going down that way myself soon, so thanks for the tip.
Cheers guys i'm a member of the NT, i only joined it for the carparks in Cornwall.
Colin i once read a book about a old school Ganster/thief who started his career stealing from parking meters, He cut the head off one so he could get a key cut, once he had this he had a uniform taylored and basically went around emptying machines, He made a fortune doing this and got away with it for years.
Before moving onto more lucrative things

I believe they call that, 'Redistribution of wealth'
I'm jealous I love Swanage and probably won't be able to go this year, I like the other pub in Worth Matravers (Priests Way from Swanage to there is a good walk) but forget it's name. The pub in Langton Matravers is nice as well. The steam railway is a wonderful day out but I always found Corfe Castle a bit busy
Dancing Ledge is lovely, and the Tank Museum is a fabulous day out
Just got back this afternoon from our stay near Ringwood. We visited a lot of the area, including Corfe Castle and Swanage, Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, and Studland beaches, coming back over the ferry to Sandbanks. We had a great time! The lovely site we were on even had spare pitches. I bet there aren't many next week though. I've just posted my review of the site.
Car parks in Bournemouth near the seafront cost a fortune though! 6 hours would have cost around £16, so needless to say we didn't bother. Stayed an hour and moved on.

Swanage is my most favourite place as well and I usually stay at Toms Field Campsite at Langton Matravers where the Kings Arms is the local hostelry. I have often walked to Worth Matravers as well, to the Square and Compass, for a pie and a pint. Sadly both pubs are very small and usually quite busy so will be off limits for me until we get back to normality.
Dancing Ledge and the south coastal path, as I am sure you know, is only a 20 minute walk across fields from the campsite...happy memories but I fear may not be repeated for some time yet.

If you have a BB you can park for free on the roads. We avoided car parks due to horrendous charges and also because we had a roof box and could not enter many of them including some supermarket car parks in Poole.
