If you’re a member of the National Trust, don’t forget to take your cards as quite a lot of the carparks around the coast in that area are owned by the National Trust and therefore are free for National Trust members if you scan your card at the pay-and-display machine. We really liked Knoll beach, which is managed by the National Trust.

Failing that you will need to take out a second mortgage just to pay the car parking charges in the Swanage area. However, there is free parking within the surrounding residential areas and then walk into town.

It was the first car park I had ever seen that had card machines, and no doubt it is because the charges are so high that people never carry that amount of cash around with them.

I used to either walk into town, or get a bus (bus pass) from the campsite entrance so have never had to pay for parking.

Like that in Swanage, Poole, Bournemouth and Chrsitchurch. Contactless payment. We find it easy and convenient to use.

Colin i once read a book about a old school Ganster/thief who started his career stealing from parking meters, He cut the head off one so he could get a key cut, once he had this he had a uniform taylored and basically went around emptying machines, He made a fortune doing this and got away with it for years.

I'm jealous I love Swanage and probably won't be able to go this year, I like the other pub in Worth Matravers (Priests Way from Swanage to there is a good walk) but forget it's name. The pub in Langton Matravers is nice as well. The steam railway is a wonderful day out but I always found Corfe Castle a bit busy

Dancing Ledge is lovely, and the Tank Museum is a fabulous day out

Just got back this afternoon from our stay near Ringwood. We visited a lot of the area, including Corfe Castle and Swanage, Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, and Studland beaches, coming back over the ferry to Sandbanks. We had a great time! The lovely site we were on even had spare pitches. I bet there aren't many next week though. I've just posted my review of the site.

Car parks in Bournemouth near the seafront cost a fortune though! 6 hours would have cost around £16, so needless to say we didn't bother. Stayed an hour and moved on.
