Sorry no I haven't but would love to when funds allow (no canoe!) but if you're looking for info I would try the forum on songofthepaddle.co.uk (if you haven't already!). Loads of info and they really seem to know their stuff!
Yes but we cheat only go downstream runs due to health probs and use transport to take camping gear to next site downstream, great sport and fun especially for someone who liked all sports but is now severely restricted.
Hi there! I did a canoeing trip down the River Wye in 1980, and we had a lot of fun. There was a dozen of us in six canoes, they were aluminium canadian canoes and we carried all our camping gear with us. We camped on riverside campsites and usually they were not too far from civilization. ( For civilization read pubs!!!! )
I cannot remember the name of the company that organized the adventure but I think that they did pony trekking holidays too. If it comes to mind I'll let you know........
------------- Love a lot. Trust a few. But ALWAYS paddle your own canoe!!

I would rather camp in a tent as i think i would find trying to camp in a canoe a little restrictive and a tad uncomfy where would i pump up my airbed but each to their own i guess camping in a canoe handy if we have another summer like last and everywhere floods just not my cup of tea thank you very much
>>> Has anyone bean canoe camping in the uk before? <<<
Yes, about 45 years ago on Loch Lomond before they turned it into a National Park and over-ran the place with tourists.
In our day you could light a fire and brew up on the shore and camp anywhere on the east coast along 20 miles of totally deserted shoreline to say nothing of the many uninhabited islands on the loch.
However, for the ultimate Canoe Camping Trip, read a book called Blazing Paddles. That would be my dream trip.
That's a trip I would like to do. I grew up in Abingdon, so I know the area and the river well, maybe I need to stop talking about it and get paddling (although first I need to get spending!)

Nope but stayed on a campsite by the river Ouse(yorkshire) a few times..had the odd local canoeists dropping down the fish ladder..and once had a group of campers/canoeists stay for one night...Among them an old guy in his 80's a widower who had built his own canadian canoe and had joined this group on their trip down the river...No info for you other than it seemed to be an organised trip lasting at least the w/end...so they must have come a fair way downstream..Dont know where they started..nor where they were going...But Im sure there must be plenty of places you can enter the river with a canoe...and just go......
Jelboy.
