Have been reading articles on Event being more breathable than Gore-tex, with similar qualites in water resistance.

Have been wearing XCR Gore-tex for hillwalking for a while over 4 seasons ,but could not resist Rab pioneer jacket ,at the price in Go.

Anyone have experience of Event and what fabric performs best in real situations.

I have used both and do not know there is a great deal of difference. Event is supposed to breath better and therefore moisture from you escapes quicker - so less condensation. I think the problem is everyone has a different threshold of where exertion causes them to overheat and so what works well for some may not work as well for others. I think they both have equall waterproofness (sure thats not a word).

all i have is gore tex.i have heard of event.it is suppose to be a better fabric, but that could simply be hype and promotional talk.I tend to agree with redman,in that they are probably equal in what they achieve in the field.

About 3 years ago I got a Vaude Casella II Event cycling jacket from Germany, at the time it was about half UK price at £75 (1.5 Euro to the £ back then), also as I wanted it for cycle touring I was looking for the XXL size, which in anycase was not available in the UK at the time, this has been my cycling jacket of choice know, even my Gortex jackets only come out on extremley cold days, the Event material is very good, and in my opinion as good as it gets, also the jacket packs down to the size of a coke can, definatley smaller than any of my Gortex jackets. on another note, I was looking to change my hikeing jacket, a Berghaus Cornice, the jacket is around 15 years old, and is in a sorry state, I like the Cornice and started looking for a replacement, now is it me, but the quality of the current Cornice is no were near as good as my old one, also the material is very different and does not feel as technical, the jacket 15 years was £200 I remember that well as my firm passed it through expences at the time, I can now find the same jacket for a £100, has the quality of Berghaus gone down hill over the years I ask?.

Have just returned from hillwalking/ camping in West Highland of Scotland, took both event and goretex, weather conditions very demanding. Now a convert to event, very imprested with performance of Rab Pioneer event jacket, Bargin of the year so far at £60 , felt performance was better than top of range bergus goretex jacket £340.

Does it still make a rustling sound like Goretex (used to - the early Goretex was terrible)

Event is meant to be better, but neither are particularly good with a cotton t shirt underneath.

Proper wicking  base layers are the most important thing!
