Hi. I hope that someone on here may be able to help me. Any advice very greatfully received. My husband is 40 soon so I'm looking for a special present. As a teenager he did a lot of fishing but hasn't for years. Just recently he went with our neighbour and his teenage son and seemed to love it. I was wondering how my maximum £100ish is best spent on fishing gear. Argos are doing a make called Zebco (complete set with a box seat etc for £48.99). Do you think this will be ok? I don't want anything fancy because he may not even be that interested. If he enjoys it obviously he can upgrade the gear then.

If you are going to send him out in the cold, wet and windy, (shame on you), then dont forget you are going to have to buy him a rod licence as well!

Zebco tackle is not bad but you might like to try Bennetts of Sheffield. They do starter outfits and do some good deals. What type of fishing is your OH interested in? General Coarse? Carp? What tackle you buy him will very much depend on what he wants to fish for

Hi,

The best thing to do is go to a local fishing tackle shop. They'll give you a good deal on a complete set up as they'll be hoping for return custom. It really is worth doing it that way as they can advise you on a good all round rod reel combo that should be capable of all kinds of fishing.

As mentioned don't forget the fishing licence £26, here's a link.

Good luck,

I agre with both the above, it would be worth asking at a local tackle shop if they sell gift vouchers which would get round the problem.

Alternatively, Bennets of Sheffield (as above) definately do them and are a very good company.

Hi if you go to www.anglersnet.co.uk on the right hand sirde click on Tackle Shop and look at Godfather feeder rod and Okuma reel. This will do him for general course fishing, both are good makes and it has an option on tips.

At that price you will have enough to go to your local tackle shop and get him a landing net, unhooking mat and some hooks, floats & line etc. They will advise you.

Don't forget he will need an Environment Agency Licence befoer he can go. This you can get at the post office or on line.

Hope this helps

Lyn
