I don't know if this one is a bit far from where you wanted too be but I can recommend it too you

The manages Dave & Shelly are members of this site and as hosts they are second too non, we had the pleasure of staying over in November and had a great time, and the food was just excellent. we will be going back soon.

We have stayed at the Lakes Lodge in Ambleside a couple of times (in the winter!) which is small and contemporary - although ask for a room at hte back of the hotel if you decide on it.

We stayed at Applegarth villa's in Windermere, not to pricey, independant hotel and the food was good

Have been away so unable to post, but just to say thank you all for your suggestions - look forward to sitting down at the computer and seeing which one will suit us best.
