OH is 50 this year, and has done the Three Peaks for the last few years. However this year his company is not doing it, but he has a long held dream to climb Hellvelyn. I was thinking of booking a trip with a tour guide for him as a surprise. But ..it will be in October, and whilst we love camping/youth hostelling etc, as it would be our first trip for years without the kids I would like somewhere a bit more special. I have googled hotels/B abd Bs in the keswick area but cant really get a "feel" for anything. Would prefer small, contemporary rather than chintzy, good views, individual rather than chain, excellent food etc. Any suggestions? many thanks!
I don't know if this one is a bit far from where you wanted too be but I can recommend it too you
The manages Dave & Shelly are members of this site and as hosts they are second too non, we had the pleasure of staying over in November and had a great time, and the food was just excellent. we will be going back soon.
We have stayed at the Lakes Lodge in Ambleside a couple of times (in the winter!) which is small and contemporary - although ask for a room at hte back of the hotel if you decide on it.
We went up for a funeral Easter week and stayed in a B&B in Stanger Street in Keswick - just where the book shop is.
Brun Lea - lovely breakfast, nice comfy rooms, not fancy or expensive. Two rooms (one double, one twin) was £208 for the two nights. They don't take credit cards.
Would recommend them to anyone. convenient for the pubs, etc for evening meals, start of walks without having to drive and up the road the Moot Hall are guided walks.
Have been away so unable to post, but just to say thank you all for your suggestions - look forward to sitting down at the computer and seeing which one will suit us best.
