Hi,

We have booked Mothers Ivey campsite, near Padstow for August.

Anyone got any top tips for superb restaurants or pubs, must go to beaches, places to visit, etc, etc

Regards

Keacal

You'll be spoilt for choice for places to eat.  Rick's is very good - on the harbour next to the Lobster hatchery.  You'll wait in a queue as it is all cooked fresh.  Padstow beach is a bit of a walk along the coast path over the cliffs, but is very much worthwhile.  Beautiful wooden hulled speedboat rides from the harbour, feel like a millionairre for 15 minutes.  The sea going boat trips are good too, but can be choppy.  You can hire bikes near Rick's chip shop for a ride on the Camel Valley Trail.  It is a nice easy cycle ride along the old railway line.  There ia a really good tea shop with a garden doing cream teas on the ride near to the vineyard.  At the end is the Bodmin & Wenford railway, steam trains to Bodmin in Summer.   Bodmin is worth a visit too.  The Old Jail is good for an afternoon.  We were there in August & hit lucky with the lifeboat day.  Not sure when it is this year, but the boat was open to visitors & the Royal Navy turned up with a Sea King to demonstrate rescue techniques.  loads to do in the town that day.  Crealy adventure park is good if you have young children with you.  You can't go to Cornwall without visiting the Eden Project.  Give yourself a full day for that.  Padstow is beautiful but does get packed with tourists in Summer. Enjoy.

Steve.

Hi Keacal,

We are regular visiters to Padstow, very pleasent place, if you walk from the harbour down the estury towards the sea there are some nice sandy beaches, also catch the foot ferry over to Rock this is a small sailing orientated village with a very busy pub and resturant called 'the green tomato' quite dear though, again the mile or so walk along the beach towards the sea is lovely sand. This beach is a good place for fishing I have had quite a few bass from here.

From Padstow inland up the estury is Wadebridge there is a well used cycle track to here about 5 miles long with places to hire bikes from if you don't have your own about £8 a day.

Further a field up the coast is Port Isac doc martin is filmed here, and Tintagnal of King Arthur fame castle etc. Down the coast there are loads of fine surfing beaches and stunning veiws from the cliffs at Bedruthen steps. a bit further is Newquay very popular with the surf dudes by day and beer swilling party type at night.

We love the area have fun. Rob.

I saw Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen in the Co-Op at Port Isaac.  He lives there.  That is one of the places where they do the "Floral Dance" of Terry Wogan fame on Summer evenings, followed by a band concert on the quayside.  Good fun if you don't mind looking a prat with everyone else!

Steve.

We stay in Treyarnon bay every year and visit padstow.. Treyarnon is a lovely beach to visit.. very pretty, has life guards, there is a natural rock swimming pool you can use when the tide is out..but you do need to climb up..or down to it... lovely place for pottering on t6he beach exploring little caves and rock pools. You can strol round to it from Mother Iveys bay I think past the light house.

Lovely walk over the cliff path from Treyarnon Bay to Porthcothan bay.. drop into the pub for lunch and stroll back..or swim..stunning walk and not difficult..takes about an hour. Fantastic youth hostel in Tryarnon bay..amazing position and if you want to swim, learn to surf or just explore a cheaper place to stay.

Enjoy!

Polzeath is nearby ..lots of places to hire surf boards and wet suits.

Hi keacal2705 and carolines,

We stay in a cottage at Treyarnon Bay every year and have seen the camp site there. Might like to camp nearby in the future to keep the cost down.

Carolines - What's the site called and is it any good. Do you have a link?

BTW - Treyarnon Bay is superb for young families. Really safe. Next door at Constantine Bay is great for surfers.

Bedruthan Steps not far away - amazing! Fifteen restaurant at Watergate Bay for real treat (welcomes kids but perhaps better during lunchtime).

It is fantastic! We have been in November and it is wonderful quiet beaches lovely walks good pubs...last year went in September..fantastic weather..going again this year to the same cottage.

...I think one of the places is called Trethias Farm...that has some caravans on..not sure about tents...but there is a big site nearby........ in St Merryn??

Will see if I can find the link.

So many lovely places around the area..there is a book of cornwall walks..probably find it on Amazon which is great gives you some great ideas for lovely cliff walks.

Just love that area!

We stayed at Tintagel a few weeks ago. Spent quiet a lot of time at Trebarwith Strand beach and the pub overlooks beach and sea which does great food. Port Issac worth a visit as previously mentioned as is Boscastle.

Trebarwith Strand is a fab place, love it when the tide is in sitting on the rocks. Most people you mention the place to have never heard of it,we only found it by visiting Boscastle and wondering where the road we were on went to.

2 Weeks and we will be back

Andy
