Never been crabbing but i have heard that my two boys might like it. We are going camping to betws - y - coed in North Wales on monday, so thought I might take them. Does anyone know of any good places to do it around this area?

Also any tips would be well recieved!

Conwy Quay.  But it is about 15 miles from Betws-y-coed.  As has been said Betws is inland.

I would think any harbour wall..jetty..deep(ish) rock pools etc etc..would be Ideal for a bit of crabbing...This from someone who took his two daughters for a day out to Pittenweem(Fife Coast) the other week...Bought two crabbing lines..nipped into the fish landing place on the harbour..scrounged a bit of old cod(for bait) and spent the next 3 hours crabbing in a now disused/defunct outdoor swimming pool !!! Nothing strange in that you might think...But DD No1 is 21yrs old...DD No2 17 yrs old...and Im in my early(cough cough) fifties!!!...After a hard fought(fun filled) contest...Dad (me) was declared the winner...by vitrue of the biggest..and most caught...though daughters might have diffrent views on that?? Jelboy is now king of the crab in his house..and is now thinking of joining...one of them deepsea crab trawlers(off the telly) as hes such an expert.... Enjoy yourselves crabbing..costs vitually nothing...is good fun (If you can ignore the stares/comments of passers by who think your mad..) And remember....No cheating!!!!!...

Shell island down near Harlech is well worth a day out, they also do camping for tents, and is brilliant for rock-pooling too. there is a small entrance fee for carparking after crossing the causeway, which is crossable at most tides exept very high ones and for about a couple of hours a day at full high water.

They have a cafe, shop and beautiful sandy beaches to explore, as well as a small harbour to fish and crab from. My girls found several Mermaid's purses (Dog fish eggcases) as well as shrimps, seashells, baby lobster and tiny flounders in the rockpools, and had a great day out.Try googleing their website to take a look around the place, its well worth a visit when you have kids in tow.

Two more ideas around there - Criccieth which has a lovely beach & some rock pool-y areas  & Beaumaris where I vaguely remember seeing loads of people catching crabs of a bridge (is it a real memory or not - mmm not sure!).
