Having wanted to get started in ages have finally decided to take the plunge. Have the luxury of some cash to spend . Going for a Garmin unit can't decide between GPSmap 62 or Oregon, any benefits of either or reasons for one or the other. Advice please
Hugh

Both are good units, the 62 being a slightly newer model than the Oregon.
I have heard of one or 2 complaints about the 62 freezing up recently. But it could be a simple fix, with a software update.

Hi Hugh n Penny
Welcome to the world of geocaching
I have an Oregon 400t (so do many local cachers to us) --- it's a tad old now but I love it ... and we will continue to cache together for a long time yet
O/H has a Montana 600 ... he loves it ... I think it's a house brick
Friend has the new Oregon 600 and he loves it
I'm not very techy ... but these are good GPS's
Hope that helps

Are you all still geocaching? I have a FB group called Geocamping UK, you might be interested in it.
We love caching and camping, been doing it about 2 years now.

I certainly don't want to stop anyone enjoying their hobby and getting fresh air and exercise but there have been a couple of pieces in the news in Scotland lately where listed/scheduled ruined buildings have been damaged by successive geocachers shifting stones, etc.
bestyman, is there a formal set of rules for geocachers to follow? Where would I find these?
I have a good reason for asking this as I'm aware it's going to come up in a meeting in the next couple of months and I'd like to have some info to pass out.

The two links above should help.
Like with other hobbies, it's sad when a few give the others a bad name.
Geocaches should not be buried or placed in dry stone walls and should have permission. If there is a geocache that has been placed causing problems contact Groundspeak on the links above. If you need any help just let me know.
