Does anybody else crayfish. My son who is 12 crayfishes in our local village river/stream, he loves it. Obviously he only catches the american ones as they are bigger and are destroying the english breed. He then goes on to sell them down the local pub.
We have just returned from France and my daughter became am expert crayfish catcher there. All the local rivers and streams were full of them.
I have spoken to a friend who fishes the rivers around me and he says these too are full of cray fish, so next week bucket in hand we're off to catch our tea.
Oh brilliant!! Son got hooked on crab fishing in Anglesey last week, I hadnt thought of using same method for crayfish. I know we have problems with the big american ones in our local river so Im sure no one would mind if we tried to catch a few.
How do I cook them? Ive got a feeling its going to be gruesome..
Where do you go to catch them?...I live very near you and my son loves catching anything!...had never thought of going anywhere local.....you don't have to divulge the exact location!....just the river/general area will do!

blimey he's young to get an EA licence ,i had to apply for one removing crays in a pond and i'm a bailiff and boy the EA were strict.
must be near impossible in a river or stream
You dont need a licence for crayfishing I phoned the fishery people. If you are catching them as my son does its fine but you are not allowed to use pots to catch them.
He catches them in the local stream that runs through our village but I think they are in most streams and rivers, you dont need to be near the coast.
We put them in clean water for about 24 hours then into boiling water for a few minutes.
crayfish are classed as fish and a licence to move them is required ,it makes no difference what the reason is or if they are dead.
it mentions traps (fixed engines) but your hand is a trap as is bait on a string ,the lawbreaker comes when you remove them from the river.
a bit of wood with a string is a rod so a rod licence is also needed if he's over 12
the licences are free but come with restrictions! lots of them
i for one have no problem with catching crays the EA though are a law unto themselves
