Hi, I am looking fo ra tow bar mounted cycle rack for 4 bikes. i have looked at the maxxraxx and a Pendle 4. Anyone got any better ideas or any feeback on these 2 options. Thought would be gratfully received.......
This takes 4 bikes and in spite of some reservations before we bought, it travels fantastically. We though it might slip on the tow ball but it doesn't. Husband really impressed (and he is a bit precious about his bikes!)
We looked at other options but we have removeable tow ball so I didn't want a permandent bike rack feature to wack my shins on. We use this on the back of our 2008 Berlingo Multispace and some of the others would have put the bikes too close to the flat back of the car. This one works well for us.
A word of caution on nose weight. Check your cars tow bar is up to it. Mine is on its limit with the camper on, so unless you have a big 4 x 4, you may not be able to tow with the rack fitted if that is what you need to do.
thanks all, I got some good advice in another forum on this site...I intend to mount my 2 heaviest buikes on my trailer, using roof bars, and then carry the smaller 2 on a carrier mounted to teh tow bar, i was advised to buy a 4 bike carrier which will enable me to take all 4 bikes on day trips but wont exceed my max weight when towing....make sense......I think it does......so I just need to decide on a bike rack........
If you just want to carry bikes without towing the best ones are those that mount on the ball & have their own lights & numberplate. If you use the hang on type without towing you may need to hang a lightboard on the back to stay legal.
If you want to tow as well you need the hang on type that has a permanent mounting inbetween ball & flange, so no good if you have a swan neck or detachable towball. When towing, with bikes on the carrier you need to make sure bikes don't hit trailer when turning.
