Hello

Can anyone help?

Myself and a group of girlfriends are going to Centre Parcs in Nottinghamshire at the end of Feb and fancy cycling from Centre Parcs to Edwinstowe near by.  Does anyone know of any cycle route website or can anyone advise me on a route? We thought that there may be a nice route through the Sherwood Forest and we would prefer to stay away from busy roads!

Cheers

Hi I think you might find that Sherwood Forest is on the other side of Edwinstowe rather than be able to cycle through it to get there.  You may have to check for definite on a map but I have driven that route quite a few times and I'm pretty sure I'm right.  Having said that, although the road is reasonably busy to Edwinstowe, its not too far and when you do get to Sherwood Forest, there are lots of lovely trails etc that you could cycle on.You may be able to find a quieter road by looking on a map though as it is quite busy.  Hope you get some more answers before too long.  Enjoy your holiday!

These good people (Sustrans) are responsible for the National Cycle Network. If you do a search for “Nottingham” you will get a scrollable map showing all cycle routes in the area. Sorry I dont know exatly where Centre Parcs is.

If you get the OS Explorer map (260) it will have all cycle routes and walks also.

Edit: There are many "traffic-free" routes, probablly more than you think.

Try www.cycle-route.com
Click on 'cycle routes' and at bottom of page select England from the 'Country' drop down menu and Nottinghamshire from the 'County/Region' drop down menu. As you will see you can select from a worldwide list of countries and their regions.
All counties of the UK are covered so no matter where you are taking a holiday with your bike you will find a list of routes to choose from.
When country and county are chosen a page will come up showing a map of the area and below this you will find 'Recently Added Nottinghamshire Cycle Routes' and below that you will find an even longer list 'All Nottinghamshire Cycle Routes'
As you will see you can even add your own route to the list.
This is a very informative site. You will find everything from routes to maintenance of you bicycle, and more.
I am sure this will be of great use to you, and others.
Happy cycling!

The National Cycle Network Route 6 (Derby to York) runs close by Centre Parcs at Sherwood. There's a network of waymarked cycle routes for all abilities at Sherwood Pines which is adjacent to Centre Parcs itself, through which Route 6 runs. When leaving the Centre Parcs complex take a sharp left onto a gravel track, follow this track for a while and you'll enter the Sherwood Pines network. From there follow the signs to the visitors centre, there's a large map of the park which shows Route 6.

When you pick up Route 6, follow it North, all on traffic free trails. The route then crosses the A6075, turn right & follow the A6075 for approximately 3/4 mile and you'll end up in Edwinstowe. If you're wanting to visit the Major Oak & Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre, turn left in the centre of Edwinstowe onto the B6034 then follow the brown signs for 1/2 mile or so until you reach the Centre on your left.

Hope this helps, have fun, happy pedalling!!!
