Took part in a charity fishing match at the weekend, turned up at the venue and could not believe the noise the carp were making splashing about. They were spawning apparently because of the weather, it sounded like someone splashing around drowning!

Most people blanked on the day.

Just had a read up on biology and now I understand what they were doing!

I fished a local lake last week when the carp were spawning and had a good day.

I started out at about a rod and half length out on the waggler and noticed them cruising and banging about under my feet.So i turned my chair side ways on to the lake and fished rod tip about a foot from the bank and in 2 feet of water and had eleven carp from 3lb to 8lb and two tench at 2lb and 4lb.The ones i was picking up were the stragglers and the tench i think were gorging on the spawn.

I was snapped twice by two really nice fish(6lb hook length).Struck into them and could'nt give enough line on that first run

I went for a walk around the lake the following day and there was a match on and a old lad was in the peg i had fished the day before.I got chatting to him has he was setting up and told him they are under your feet mate and the method i had used.He put his pole back in the bag and set up his waggler rod.

I saw him at knock off and he was chuffed to nuts , he got second place with 40 odd pound of carp. His words, the best days fishing he had for ages

The fish eventually started feeding at about 1500 but I was fed up by then, landed 1 and snapped another 2. I am relatively new and find it difficult to land sometimes.

I think the weather had a lot to do with it. I fished a local venue the previous sunday and caught 48 fish - mostly roach but with a 5lb carp included. Last sunday I fished the same venue, same swim , same bait and caught 3 small roach

The sudden heatwave will upset many fish for a while (especially on the Rivers).

Hoping for a prolonged heatwave as I love surface fishing with bread cigars or dog bisquits!
