There's the park at the side of the River Lune. Kirby is on the edge of the Lake District, near Morecambe Bay. I think there's a butterfly farm down the A65. I can't recommend any eateries other than the burger van at the old bridge!
Too many walks and places to see either towards the coast or back towards the Yorkshire Dales, there are plenty of cheap paper guides for sale in the local shops. In Kirby Lonsdale try the Station House Pottery and Tea Room, you can book short pottery lessons or just watch and enjoy a cuppa. If you like chocolate try the Enchanted Chocolate Mine.

------------- Some people have nothing much to say, but you often have to listen for a while before you realise it!
If you go to Ingleton, there's the waterfalls walk and White Scar Caves. If you go the other way, there's Morecambe and the Bay. And whilst you are there, check out Red Bank Farm at Bolton-le-Sands, there's a campsite there, but also a nice cafe, it's right on the shore.
We did eat at a very nice pub in nearby Tunstall, can't remember the name.
The Settle to Carlisle Railway is well worth a ride, very scenic, not much to see in Carlisle other than the castle but Appleby which is roughly half way is worth a visit.
You've got the 3 peaks, Malham Tarn is nice and Skipton isn't too far away which is a lovely place. You've also got Hawes in the Dales, the Wensleydale Creamery is worth popping into for a snack.

Station House Pottery is very good, and not a bad price for a cake and a cuppa.
Would also recommend the Highwayman at Burrow, just outside Kirkby it’s a great place to eat run by the guy who has northcote manor.
As others have said loads of walking, good little swimming pool at Ingleton (outdoor) or Hornby)..
The other pub looks really good, is about to reopen under new owners with a great reputation is the plough at lupton....
Days out for the kids can recommend Greenland’s farm village at Carnforth or for a free day out visit Happy mount park in Morecambe great splash park...
